A speed increase of 100% is a very good leap. We used to be
satisfied with the 30% speed increase going from Geforce3 to
Geforce4. Or the speed decrease from Geforce2 Ultra to Geforce3.
Don't tell me you're not amazed by the speed of the 6800 Ultra. Come
on, Nvidia owned ATI in this round. Good job Nvidia.

Incredible that such a large portion of the 'hardcore' is amazed by
a speed increase of only 100%.

Interesting how the 3DMark03 numbers are over twice as fast as ATI
Radeon, but the Far Cry test puts them much closer.
I don't trust anything from Nvidia anymore until PROVED they ain't a
bunch of lying weasels with the benchmarks and game optimizations.

Since when will it cost $100 for a quality PSU to run this video
card? And now you are claiming $600 for the card? (I hope you were
figuring that as $500 for the card and your abscure $100 PSU). And
dont tell me its $600 just for the card becuase the places that are
taking those orders for that price now are out of their mind (well
you have to be if you fall for it) since you wont get it till later
anyways (much much closer to the official release date). $100 is
not worth the bragging right for just a few days (maybe) of
"exclusive" ownership.

If ati can release a card that's close in performance and a bit
cheaper and doesn't require a $100 powersupply than they've got it
made.
The nvidia card looks impressive but $600? That's why I finally
bought a xbox to check out. Right now you could buy all three
consoles and still have $200 left to spend on games. Or you could
buy an xbox, a decent 27" tv and at least 2 or 3 just released
games.
I love pc games but consoles just start to look more and more
attractive. Now if only they let you use mouse and keyboard and a
monitor.

1. The ([?] FX) 6800 @ 16X1 pipelines & 256bit & 550MHz
gddr3 memory is as much an improvement over current
8X1/256bit/365MHz gddr2 gpu as the R9700pro (8X4/256bit/310MHz) was
over the GF4 Ti (4X2/128bit/250MHz) mid 2002 gpus.
Nvidia has long resorted to vastly overclocking newer model gpu to
try and surpass lower clocked ATI models (eg. FX5800 vs R9700pro)
instead of improving their archecture (ie. 128 bit memory bus
interface vs 256bit, or 4 vs 8pixel pipeline.) At least the (?FX)
6800 allows DX9c features. Trouble is, most game devs are still
trying to code for DX9b much less DX9c.
2. This gpu is going to be putting out serious heat. And instead of
dumping that out the back of the computer, it appears the fan design
will just pass ever increasingly hot air into the pool of air
already inside the case. So it will be trying to asuage the gpu's
heat from it's own exhaust. You have to have cooler inflow air to
pull off the heat from the HS to lower the temperature of the gpu.
3. The 550MHz gddr3 vs the R98000xt's 365MHz gddr2... well, wonder
which will have beter performance, especially considering the 6800
is using 16 pipes vs the 8 pipes of the R9800's. I guess this is
also why the P4 3GHz has beter performance than the Celeron3 1GHz
cpu?
4. If this 6800 will only insert in pcix slot mobo instead of X8agp
slot mobo then it will be for gamers that likely will be upgrading
to ddr2 system memory, LGA775, pci express mobo, (sata2,) later this
year.
5. One possible good thing about these 16 pipe pcix gpu is they may
drive down the prices on the R9800xt to the $150 range (!!sweet!!)
for those of us unwilling to jump onto the pc
