» ATI to release X300

This Digitimes story reports on ATI's X300, which is aimed to serve the needs of the value market. According to the report, X300 will be launched at Computex this week and will be based on a 0.11-micron manufacturing process. The article goes on to mention that ATI plans to tape-out its first 0.09-micron chips at the end of this year with volume production slated for 2005.

I can't imagine the X600 or the X300 not being DX9.0 cards.

Yeah, I think that's about right. The only thing we don't really
know yet is how many pixel and vertex pipelines the X600 cards have,
and we don't know if the X300 will be DX9 capable or still only
DX8.1. The X300 should have 4 pixel pipelines and 2 vertex
pipelines, similar to the 9600XT cards. However, it is specced to
use either a 64- or 128-bit memory bus. Obviously, that's a major
limitation, and the 64-bit bus in particular would make the card a
lame duck.

I think its the Replacement for the 9200 but will run as fast as the
9600XT. Where as the X600 is the replacement for the 9600 Series and
will be as fast as a 9800XT......

At least they better.................

So is this going to be a 9600XT replacement, or a 9200 class
slow-poke?

Now instead of 500Mhz 9600XT, we will likely see something like a
700Mhz 9600XT Ultra Pl. Limited Edition Extreme.
