 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!
 |

| | (Post a comment) » Intel Pentium 4 LGA775 OverclockingLast week we showed you the performance of Intel's 3.6GHz and 3.4GHz Extreme Edition at default clock speeds, today we're cranking both of these chips up, and a retail Pentium 4 540 (3.2GHz) to see how high they go (hint: a 700MHz+ overclock was reached)! In addition, we've also played around with DDR2-600, to see what performance improvements, if any, it brings. We've also highlighted a few of the hottest 925X motherboards on the market right now, Gigabyte and ASUS' offerings both boast dual Gigabit LAN, integrated 802.11g Wi-Fi, IEE-1394b, and support for up to 8 Serial ATA devices among their list of features. Read all about the new chips and motherboards in this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

I was just wondering when you overclocked the 3.2 ghz Prescott was
it the original batch or the revisioned batch with the heat problem
fixed from the original batch?

Thanks GX-Brandon I've always been an early adopter which is
expensive and I'm eagerly awaiting an article on the new 915 boards
so I can make an informed decision.
Can never have enough power :-)

That's coming in the roundup, this piece was focused on the
processors, but I did want to get a little bit in there on the mobos
for the early adopters.
#5: Yes, the 915P boards are excellent overclockers as well.

For an overclocking article, this piece lacked quite prominently in
some areas.
Why didn't you use your multiplier-restricted Prescott to find out
and note the max FSB either motherboard would run at?

At least it looks like 6800GT is on the cusp. Lots of preordering
being taken and should ship anytime now. Sadly, I've gotta stick
with my overclocked 9800 until thanksgiving at the earliest.

What I would really like to know is, do the 915 chipset motherboards
from Abit and Asus overclock as well? I don't want to waste money
on DDR2 memory when currently there doesn't appear to be any
performance benefit.
Or does any of the 925 chipset motherboards support regular DDR?

Agree, you can't go wrong building an Intel system, but the AMD FX53
will blow Intel away when it comes to gaming. I've got a P4 3.4c
and yes, it does multitask well, but for my next machine, I'm
defecting to AMD. I mean, if you are a gamer, and you are OCing
your processor, and watercooling it, then why go Intel when AMD will
win?
Great review, but what fans really want to see are more AMD
comparisons, expecially when the retail 6800U boards can be found on
Newegg. The [H] just did one, it was cool, but now we gotta see a
6800U shootout, if the cards would ever make it to market.

How much do these systems cost after proc, mobo, mem, hd, case and
all that? $5000? I'd rather buy 2 computers.
