| | (Post a comment) » S3 DeltaChrome S4 Pro Performance PreviewATI and NVIDIA are already established names in the 3D business, but what if a third alternative existed that offered just as many 3D features, good performance, and excellent multimedia, DVD, and 2D capabilities? That's exactly what S3 is striving for with its DeltaChrome line. Today S3 is taking the wraps off its value offering, the S4 Pro. This card is intended to dethrone cards like NVIDIA's GeForce FX 5200/5200 Ultra, but does it accomplish this? See what we think of this card in this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Again, because there are features the DC can do that those cards
can't. If all you want is the fastest gaming card for less than
$100, you'd get a GF4 Ti 4200.
Besides, this is only a preview of a prototype card with beta
drivers, performance will only go up from here. It's way too early
to come to any final conclusions.

Even so the fx5200 or even a radeon 9200 is cheap enough, u can get
a Radeon 9200 for £29.99 in the UK while the Geforce fx5200 is
£39 either will be faster than s4 for the majority of games so
why would anyone want a S4. If a person cant aford £29.99 for
a video card then they shouldn't have brought a pc game in the first
place. If you want a graphics card u go with ATI or Nvidea, its
standard!

One thing to keep in mind, the S4 Pro is priced to compete with the
GeForce FX 5200, while the S4 Nitro is intended to compete with 5200
Ultra. Sorry if I didn't make that more clear in the article.

Does anyone actually read their own articles before they make a
"conclusion"?? If they did, the conclusion should be
something like... "another anemic, overpriced piece of
trash...". It's typical of S3 to state that they support many
advanced features, but the chip/card is so slow that it can't take
advantage of them at anything higher than 640x480@16bit! (S3 and
Trident wrote the book here...) Your conclusion sounds like a
"thumbs up", or rather a review by someone working for S3!
The fact that their more advanced quality settings are getting
worse makes it obvious that they are trying to squeeze extra frames
out of an already outdated chip. And the price... $79-$129 for
this???? You can get FX200 Ultra and Radeon 9200 cards for less
that will blow this thing away. And that is RIGHT NOW!
