» 3D Performance with DOOM 3: Part 1 High-End Cards

Wondering how much of an improvement ATI's new beta driver for DOOM 3 brings to X800 XT Platinum Edition or X800 PRO? Or perhaps you'd like to see how a 256MB GeForce 6800 compares to a GeForce 6800 128MB card? We've got the answers to those questions plus GeForce 6800 Ultra versus GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme, and DOOM 3 high quality versus DOOM 3 ultra quality performance. Read all about it and check out the screenshots in the first part of our DOOM 3 performance series of articles!

I really dont get why fireing squad cant take one line and say
whether they benched with nvidias optimizations on or off. Since you
cant turn ati's off we all know those are on, But what about
nvidias? Not stateing makes me believe they were left off.. So by
not stateing what the driver setting are for nvidia I will throw
this review on the junk pile. All because you cant state in one line
what settings were used. Lame fireing squad.

go play with your 3dmark,idiot

d3 alone will have over a couple million copy advantage over farcry

the most useful benchmarks are based on what the user would use
their computer for. Yeah, like you play aquanox

First, Doom 3 didn't thrill me. I'm going back to play more Joint
Ops...

Second, "a lot has been made about how AA isn’t necessary for
enjoyable eye candy. We also feel that the same applies to
8xAF" What kinda crack are you guys smoking???!!!!! AA and AF
will always ALWAYS make a difference. BIG difference. Jaggies
suck!

Is this true? "The most startling part about it is that
NVIDIA’s ace in the hole, UltraShadow, isn’t even enabled currently
in DOOM 3."

I can't find anything about the feature saying it must be enabled in
some way. Or is there a new driver version needed to enable it?

I think you are confusing the game with the engine. D3 as a game is
very dark, but D3 as an engine doesn't HAVE to be dark, it's all up
to the developer.

As far as outside scenes go: I honestly don't know what the D3
engine can and cannot do, but I do know that not every game concept
requires an outside environment. People who want to make an inside
only game have definitely found their engine of choice. Think:
System shock, AvP, Half-life, Alice, basically every first person
shooter from the 90's, etc.

Someone needs to meld the huge outdoor environment code from Farcry
with the awesome indoor code from D3. Then we will have something
truly great.

Oh yeah, and throw in the GHOUL system from SoF.... and the AI code
from Farcry, is it just me or are the marines dumb as stumps in D3?

hahah No wonder you post anonymously.

And Really NAME some games using the doom 3 engine...I can't think
of any besides MAYBE an AVP type game that requires a hella dark
game..

Performance is terrible especially for ATI users..using the engine
can't be justified...

Inside environment only...vs inside and outside
Swim...boat..prone..crouch...stealth vs Flashlight, Guess, Shoot

Doom 3 transformed into a mars battle type game would kick arse
though...the outside the first time you see it is VERY cool..red
sand blowing etc...whoever said AvP for D3 engine is teh smartz.

Alright 'Genious' signing off!
