these tests are great, but a few things, first off all, i have a
1800+ amd and while i dont get really high fps on anything less than
high my computer puts the frames on the screen way too fast so i
have to turn the grpahics up to compensat for htis. That timedemo
only read around 40fps but it looked like it was going way too fast.
Oh well, also, i want to see some numbers on the radeon 9800pro's
(128) with r360 cores oc'ed to stock xt speeds! That would really
help me out a lot!

i doubt a gig of ram is need for this or many other games. i
actually gave up 512 of 1 gig recently to built my parents a pc....
havent missed it much if any. also, why do some people think you
need a better video card when it does nothing to improve their
minimum fps, only improves their maximum fps when it spikes.
although their 3dmark or maximum fps in doom will go up, who cares
when thye still bottom out at the same level as a slower card
becasue their performance problems are all CPU? the only sure way to
never go below say 60 fps in doom3 ever, it to buy a 500 dollar cpu
with the appropriate ram/mb and pair it with at least a
"good" video card. even then the game still doesnt stay
above 60 fps all the time. you can safely build a much less
expensive pc and get close to the same experience of the most
expensive pcs.
where a top of line pc plays the game perfect, so does mine. when
that top of the line pc dips to 30 fps, mine dips to 20... still
choppy, but still playable. i'd feel stupid paying more for so
little, when its really just the software thats to blame.
at least doom3 is a good benchmark for which to gauge pc progress as
a whole.

Nice review, actually where I come from a 3Ghz P4 and 512MB RAM with
a 9600XT is High End :) I think the spec you picked was an excellent
reference point, it's amazing how many Kids are playing these games
with Dell PIII 's and Geforce 3's and/or HP P4 Celerons with Geforce
4MX Cards (you get the point :) ), the reality is Far more Gamers
have lower spec machines than Higher (I still class a P4 2+ Ghz
machine as Med to High end).
IMHO
