| | (Post a comment) » Counter-Strike: Source Beta PerformanceDo you love playing Counter-Strike but you're tired of its outdated graphics? Then Counter-Strike: Source is for you! Take the same popular game and give it a fresh coat of paint with one of the most advanced game engines out there and you have the basics of what CS: Source is all about. But which card performs best with the CS: Source beta -- ATI or NVIDIA, and how much of an impact does having a 256MB graphics card bring? See those answers, as well as more 2048x1536 benchmarks in this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

What makes you think that? I think "most" people are
looking for what card to buy for their new rig for these new games.
Besides, those "most people" you described want to see how
well their cards can stack up to other cards anyway, I think it's
just a little easier to find a name than to compare cards when
they're not sorted by performance. You should have just sorted by
performance.

"With LCD, if you want a lower resolution, then you can use a
smaller area of the screen. " - and just how is that a good
solution?
"Alternatively, you can half the resolution and double up the
pixels." - and 'enjoy' a quarter of the resolution available,
this is again not a good thing.
"This is how it should be with all displays, anyway,
really." - so you are saying that the way CRT monitors deals
with it is not a good thing?
Sometime in the future I am sure CRT's will be surpassed but for now
I can only really see them have a lot of advantages (price, response
time, flexible resolution, no dead pixels, better colours and an
ulimited amount of them...) and three real drawbacks, the size on
the desk, the weight when moving and a somewhat higer energy
consumption (if you think a big TFT uses harly any power then think
again).

optimum resolution does not matter with LCD.
With LCD, if you want a lower resolution, then you can use a smaller
area of the screen.
Alternatively, you can half the resolution and double up the
pixels.
This is how it should be with all displays, anyway, really.

LCD's haven't gotten beyond 2048x1536, and this resolution is a
lxuury for most people, only high end 19inch, and most 21inch, and
22inch monitors are capable of displaying this resolution, you also
have to factor in the higher electricity usage and space cost.
Though it will be cool if we can finally see LCD's with 2048x1536
resolution in a not too distant future:D

Me think it's sweet that you have started testing at 2048*1536
better late than never I say.
I have been playing UT at that resolution for 3+ years and it rocks,
the need for FSAA is smaller at high resolutions and the amount of
details is a real advantage fx. when playing CTF Instagib on large
maps.
As I see it there is a long way before TFT/OLEDs and whatever will
bette my Sony F520 with it's perfect picture regardless of
resolution and let's not even get started on response time, 0.22 dp
rules:-)
