Great Article!!! As much as we all like seeing those 'sexy' numbers
from the high-end hardware, it's great to see benchmarks with stuff
I actually own (or might actually have a chance of owning).
I'm DYING for a similar article on Mobo's / CPU's. Is the fastest XP
proc faster than the slowest 64 bit proc? I still can't wrap my
cro-magnen brain around the clock speeds being almost the
same...every fiber of my consumer being says "LOOK AT THE
MHZ!!!"
Keep up the good work,
--Jeff

Cool preview, Brandon. Too bad the 5200, 5200 Ultra, and 5600
couldn't be included (so we could see the Ti4200 beat them - heheh).
Interesting to see the 8500 actually beat out the Ti4200 in non-AA
tests. It basically shows that CS:S is more interested in memory
bandwidth than raw GPU power. And for #4, I would have to say that
a P4 3 GHz was definitely limiting the frame rates, but over 70 FPS
is still fine, I think.
Last comment/question: since you say you didn't force and DX mode on
the cards, do the 9500/9600/9800 cards run DX8.1 or DX9? The 9800
Pro should at least be capable of DX9 given it's overall performance
lead.

Sorry, no clue where our Kyro II board is. Also, this is the last
article to use the FiringSquad custom demo. Our demo is incompatible
with the latest release of CS: Source beta.

Because, unlike some of those fast-job cookie-cutter reviews, you
actually make sure to do a good job. Once again, a great review
guys. Thanks for the preview. Its very reassuring to know that
despite being celebratings its 1 year anniversary, my 9800pro still
holds up.
Any chance of throwing in a KyroII for a friend of mine? LOL.. he
soooo needs to upgrade. You know, you are in deep 6%W^#%$ when even
the Sims, or intro movies to games are already choppy.. nevermind
game itself which seldom supports < DX7... soo funny.

With the 9800 pro, the system is CPU limited until 1600x1200 (no AA
or AF). I have a similar system (Atholon XP 3000+ instead) so I
guess I will be running at 1280x1024. Anyone know is the source
engine favors AMD or Intel? Hopefully my 3000+ barton won't fall
behind the 3Ghz P4 and A64 as much as it does in doom3! I haven't
see and CPU comparisons, just video card.
