i think this game is the createst real time stratgey yet but once
youve dusted it and completed all the historical battles its boring
starting a new game is crap because its the same old $#$# when you
are the romans its so easy that you end up completing it before the
marius reforms are any good to you.

i v lost almost no battles and the ones i have have been at sea i
need something more challenging out of this game. i tried getting
the barbarian invasion ex pansion thats excactly the same apart form
a couple of move arounds onthe campaign map and some new unit
formations. i tried the total realism mod but that just screwed up
the game so i had to re-install it any thougts on this post a
message

This game is suppose to simulate the Roman Empire/Republic age as
best as possible, which includes revolts. As you get further away
from your Empires core, you lose more influence and control. If
your cheesed off about these revolts, think about how the Roman
Emperors felt.

This isnt really a comment but i figured that it would be posted so
if anyone can help me please answer this and email me at:
annoyutilludie@aol.com. I was wondering how do you unlokc different
factions for the imperial campaign. I read in another article that
once you conquer a faction it will be available in your next
campaign, but I did that to a faction and it didnt become available.
I did unlock a different faction but i dont know how. I didnt have
any contact with them throughout that whole campaign. thanks,
please get back to me.

ok you know your playing favorites here. each faction has its pros
and cons your saying hte greeks are one of hte worst factions in the
game granted yes they have the worst cavalry but their phalanx
units are some of the best esp the spartans. and you can take units
out of the phlanx formantion if their in it and then there jsut as
manuverable as other units. and if there surrounded the fight b/c
there also equiped wiht swords for closer combat than their %$&@@!
are made for. and your ravings about missile units are stupid b/c
yes missile units help but htey run out and get chased around. and
as for skirmishers deploy them on hte flanks nad they work its not
that hard. every unit is a capable of taking out another unit unless
its hte obvious ones heavy infantry agianst light nad light cav
agiasnt heavy cav but if its heavy against heavy anyhting can
happen. and hoplites arent as bad as you think at seiges or in
combat either. or is it you jsut dont know how to use them
propperly. b/c if u dont ur probalby adavaning in phlanx formation
wich is stupid the only time u leave them in phalanx is when your
defending if not then u advance to them out of formation then reform
and attack

"the Marian Reforms kick in (which happens as soon as the first
Imperial Palace is built)."

No they don't. I built an Imperial Palace at Patavium, and waited 20
turns for the reforms to happen, whilst I built the other upgrades.
They didn't. I reloaded, and completed the game without them.

I suspect that there is also a time issue involved. I was playing
the game on medium difficulty, and completely walked it, so I won
the game very early.

True, but to practice the art of tactical warfare is always
worthwhile...Even if it is single minded, it still should be
perfected..hmmm
