The solution? Cheap. Reliable. Comfortable. I'm sorry, I mean .Cheap .Reliable .Comfortable: the Plantronics .Audio 90. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

I'm Thinking of getting me a new brand. I have went threw 2 sets of
these. The first one, lost its left speaker. The secound one,
Bearly records my voice. Its picking it up bearly. I tryed my 3
year old headset, and its mic works ALOT better than my 2nd one.
I'm planing on going to a different brand. I'm not going to get
another one of these for awhile. The sound quality was greate, and
I liked the long wire because sometimes I had to get out of my chair
to do something, and I could always still talk to my friends on
skype while doing so. I noticed with this secound set, When I plug
it into my Logitech THX speaker system, I set the headset to full
volum, and the left speaker sounds muted. My THX speaker's can be
turned almost off and it does this too.

after reading posts here I thought I was the only lunatic with Audio
90 (3 pairs now before I gave up) that would for no apparent reason
whatsoever just stop working. here are some of the %$!%%!!&
symptoms;
-1 ear piece works unless you jiggle the wire a little bit
-MIC just down right fails to work even if you click that
volume/mute thing a billion times
-total loss of sound altogether
at first I thought it was me till I bought a KOSS pair which I loved
which then got replaced by Sennheiser. I'm happy now.

When you have surround sound system boosting 300 watts, can you
still use a mic?
I've always wondered how that would work...

I have a pair of Plantronics and I have mixed feelings about'em.
Compared to other low budged headsets, they are fair, but the
overall quality of'em is low. After 3 weeks usage, the mic ground
seems to be defect, resulting in a loud 50Hz humming. Since I lost
my recipt, I had to open and solder the wire myself, here you really
see the utter low quality of this headset. Most of the soldering
was bad (cold solderings) and the wires used are of very low
quality. After 6 weeks of usage, the left speaker stopped working,
again a bad wire close the headset. So I had to cut 5cm or the cable
and resolder all wires. Again after 10 months of usage, the cable
got tired close to the headset again, this time 10cm had to go. The
good thing about this is, that the volume control is now in a
position where its easy reachable. Speaking of which, the bad
connection in the volume regulation really is annoying.
The sound quality (once they work), is quite good. Both mic and ear
phones have ok quality (no way near Sennheiser quality, but still
way better than some of trust's cheap crap headsets.)
So. If you want Plantronics, make sure you know how to repair them
yourself, or go and spend some more on a quality set of Sennheiser.

Cheap $15 Labtec's, been using the same set around my neck for 3
years now without a single problem on Ventrillo and Teamspeak.

"low-quality amplification"?!! (snipped from Jakubs
review)
There's no such thing as an amplifier on the Plantronics Audio 90,
to the best of my knowledge. And I should know, I own a pair myself.
It's just an ordinary volume-knob, and if you're experiencing low
audio-quality, the answer is probably the source which the cans are
connected to.
I bought my pair because I was satisfied with the lesser Plantronics
headphones that was included in Microsofts Sidewinder Game Voice,
especially the microphone. When I weared those down I decided to try
the bigger & sturdier Audio 90. I can only say I'm very
satisfied (for the price) with both the audio and building quality
of the Audio 90.

I have a Logitech Internet headset hanging around my neck, with the
mic bent up, and my Grado SR-80s for headphones. No complaints.

A900 maybe a good choice, but what if they ever need maintenance?
Would be hell to ship them back to Japan, think about the costs
involved.

My brother and I went through about 3 Audio 90's until I decided to
stop lining Plantronics pockets from having to replace these
headphones every 6 months. Symptoms like intermittent sound require
u to fudge with the connection, and works sometimes, but the
inevitability of these headphones eventually breaking down is
gauranteed. One particular Audio 90 totally fell apart and required
some soldering work and some super glue. Save your money, go buy
some sennheisers. Audio 90s build quality can be compared to crappy
generic made in china brands. Good luck with yours mr. Wojnarowicz.
