 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » Pacific Fighters ReviewThe creators of IL-2: Sturmovik and IL-2: Forgotten Battles are back, this time covering the Pacific War between Japan, the US and Commonwealth forces. Is it as good as the previous games? Better question: how is it different from its predecessors?
This is the image that Jakub is referring to in post #1 below. I will be replacing it in a few minutes.

Easy fix for many games with the same problem: Go to your device
manager and select "properties" for IDE ATA/ATAPI
controllers. Change your transfer mode from DMA to PIO mode and then
reboot.

This may not be the place to pose some questions about the Pacific
fighter but I have a real problem with it. I can not find any way to
communicate with UBISOFT. I would like to send them the following
massage:
Dear Sir,
I own the following games from UBISOFT:
- The games collection IL2.
- Forgotten Battles.
- Pacific fighters.
All work perfect exept the last game “Pacific fighters” which give
me the following error massage when started:
“CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all
CD/DVD emulation software and re-start the game”
next window mentions the following massage in dutch translated in to
Englisch:
“ impossible to initialise the application (0xc0000142). Click OK
to end the application.”
By my knowledge I have at the moment no CD/DVD emulation installed.
Even when I start Windows with only the basic and minimum tasks and
services, the same massage appearce.
Please could You let me know what to do.
I installed the standallone version.
I am running Windows XP prof Service pack 2.
My motherboard is ASUS P4P800
Regards.

Alrighty. For someone whose flight sim experience has been limited
to Red Baron, A-10 Tank Killer and the arcade style flying in
Operation Flashpoint, I'm wondering how it can be viewed as a steep
learning curve?
The only thing I found difficult -scratch that, try bizarrely
complicated- was the full mission editor. What a beast (the decrepit
lame type of beast that is)!
Back to the game, my historical knowledge of the period is OK at
best, but sitting in the cockpit of the first functional jet fighter
was pretty darned cool.
Want to skip the boring stuff? Oh let's be scary and use your damned
imagination for a nanosecond and go full right rudder with the
breaks on as you're warming that WWII jet up and overtake the SOBs!
Who cares if they scream at you? Do you do everything your mummy
tells you to do? Maybe I'm just a big kid that is looking for fun
rather than fault and is finally able to fly in a Flight sim that is
fun as well as granting a nice natural feel while flying...
Sheesh people, if you look for faults you will find them. I
guarantee, you'll be pressed to control that sucker as you burn
along the grassy side walk until you veer back onto the ideal line
to get that puppy airborne again.
I've found Microsoft's and others unbelievably painful to use
compared to this one and had none of the good points, but you need
to take my previous experience into account on that count.
I run it on Gamespy without any problems, and in fact it runs better
than via ubi's interface.
In closing
I hope Maddox gives us something tasty like a Vietnam theatre
version soon, as I need something closer to my time frame without
the learning

You can in fact install a standalone version of Pacific Fighters if
you don't have or don't want to merge it with IL2FB & AEP.
The comment that the Easy setting should be made even easier is
perhaps naive. If someone wants an arcade sim, then they are free to
buy something other than IL2FB, AEP or PF. In fact, the IL2FB series
could do with a bit more realism in some areas.
Flying an aircraft really does take a little more than pressing W,
S, A, D keys to move, and should therefore involve more than 5 mins
of learning. Granted, there are many people who don't have the
patience, interest nor skill to spend time learning. But I'm not
sure this is a market Oleg Maddox intended to address in the first
place.
Oleg made a choice to create as high fidelity a sim as PC
technology, money and business realities would permit. He has done
an excellent job, and the aviation enthusiast and flight sim
community is all the richer for his efforts. We can only hope that
he can stay in business to continue blessing us with his outstanding
value for money sims.

Mk VIII came in both clipped wings and regular. Most Spitfires,
starting with the Mk V, were available this way.

Huh? A Mk VIII? The VIII had pointed wingtips while the image has
flat tips. That's why I thought it was the III prototype, which had
wings shaped like that.
