There's a bios hack floating on the net for enabling the temperature
monitoring on the 6600GT's. I saw someone post that he got it
working on his MSI. Could you now complement the article with the
temp results?

Agreed. I purchased the MSI as well and it is certainly not a quite
card. I think Sandman must have a problem with his hearing, 'barely
audible', are you joking?

The cooler on the MSI is copper colored/anodized aluminum. It is NOT
a copper heatink.
It took me less than a blink to figure that out once it was in my
hands...it's WAY too light, and feels/sounds like aluminum.... I
also scratched it a little, and yup, that's Al.

Personally I think it's a shame you couldn't get hold of a Galaxy
6600GT 128MB 128 Bit DDR3, it is clocked (like the BFG) at 525
(1050) and has a smart copper heatsink and fan which covers the
memory chips (nice fine copper vanes to dissipate the heat) as well
as the GPU.
I bought the Galaxy card here in the UK from Scan for GBP139+VAT
(yeah we get shafted on the exchange rate even though it's currently
GBP1=USD1.90 or so) and it's a cracker of a card.
Does Firing Squad plan on comparing the Galaxy to the BFG at all?
Neil.

#38 Again, it used to be nvidia cards had the better drivers but it
seems the last 2-3 nvidia cards I have owned, have given me much
trouble in the installation after the installation though no
problems... but the trouble comes with cards from companies like PNY
and BFG when I try to use the reference nvidia driver, and sometimes
when i use there drivers. The ati cards I have installed/used
Radeon 9700 pro/9800 pro/9600 Wonder/Radeon 9200, I have never had
a problem with any of these even when i still had nvidia drivers
installed on the machine and forgot to uninstalled them before
putting in a ati card:P With ati cards its put the card in startup
the machine install drivers restart and yer finished... I have had
some problems with the cards being unstable but recent drivers has
fixed that. I do notice a slight graphics difference between ati and
nvidia cards maybe its just me but ati cards seem to look alot
better at brighter contrast and in shadowed areas/corners. But
definatelly theres no way to find a better video card for $200, The
msi cards comes with a stock dinky fan that runs at low rpms and its
very quiet i replaced it with a better fan and it stays alot
cooler... I play fps games quake3/doom3 and just begun World Of
Warcraft

The reason FS says its a 9800XT killer is because it runs better in
most games and is half the price.

MSI card runs fine for me, seems to be very quick so far, like the
packaging and whatnot. Unfortunately my system is louder then
before with my 8500, if they provided a fan throttle for 2d then
everything would be cool....

Yup, I think the hassle I've had with the MSI 6600GT AGP has me
thinkin' this is the last NVidia card I'll get. After returning the
first one I got (wouldn't even install), it took adding a fan to the
HSI heatsink to stablize the second, as well as a frantic driver
juggle.
I'm continuing with the card only because the comp. store won't
refund me on the second one I got from them, but I'll be building a
new system next year at this time with an ATI card for sure.
I hope the 6600GT runs ok until then. Has there been any official
word from Nvidia that they are trying to improve the situation? I
have not seen any sign of it.
It's a shame really because I went Nvidia this time due to the
strength of the 128mb Ti4200 I was using for the last 2.5 years. I
had the Voodoo5 before that, man for the time that was just great
too.
