 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » 3D Performance with Chronicles of Riddick: High-end cardsJust as Far Cry stunned everyone with its jaw-dropping graphics and great gameplay in 2004, Chronicles of Riddick appears to be doing the same this year. The game sports an advanced engine with support of 2.0 shaders, ragdoll physics, etc, and is capable of pushing today's latest hardware to its limits in its 2.0++ shader mode. But which card runs fastest in Chronicles of Riddick, and exactly what kind of a performance hit do you get when you crank the game up to 2.0++ mode. Find out in this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Why only 1 game. That's kind of stupid, don't you guys think? One
game doesn't make a system complete.

Nice article. Definitely looking to add this game to my collection!
A couple of questions:
Does it seem odd that the results for 4xAA/0xAF are virtually
identical to 4xAA/8xAF? I mean within 1 FPS or less (in some cases
no change at all)? Does the game not properly implement AF? It's
true for both nVIDIA/ATI cards. Seems odd to me.
Also, the 2.0++ results seem strange: the 1280x1024 graph shows an
AVERAGE FPS of 19 on the 6800 Ultra and 17 on the GT, but the chart
at the bottom of the page lists the MINIMUM FPS as 31/28
respectively in the same resolution. How can that be?

Here is my question.....why no Athlon64 paired with a 64-bit OS?
(Windows XP-64 RC2 is available for one year free usage from
Microsoft's site *right now*)
Apparently, it's been reported, as 'Riddick' is a 64-bit game, users
are seeing roughly 20-25% performance boost running it on a 64-bit
processor with a 64-bit OS.
Would have been nice to see a review site quantify that, and when I
heard FiringSquad was doing a 'Riddick' review - I expected to see
just that covered!

You can also record a demo using "record demo 1" and then
to play it back type "benchmark demo 1" and it will log
the results in the Riddick Folder(just like Halo) with minimum,
average, maximum fps, number of frames etc

I agree, but I would like them to start at about 1700-2000 mark.
Show us with old cpus what we will get from a cutting edge video
card. I can't afford to up date my cpu/mb/ram and graphics cards at
the same time. I would love to see what i could do with with my
cash, My current gf4200 is looking seriously long in the tooth and
is a more important upgrade than my XP2000 with 2gig of ram. I would
also prefer to wait for the new case specifications BTX to come out
before I do a MB replacement.

In games like HL2 a better CPU can make a large difference in
performance.

Naa it's just you. I could care less about the 5% increase in speed
the CPU does. I love the huge variables gfx cards give.

I dont know about anyone else, but I am absolutely dying to see a
benchmark for CPU speeds with the latest GFX cards. I cant find
benchmakrs of any use anywhere.
I would like to see a good selection of CPUs from 2500+ AthlonXp's,
through 3000+'s, into early 64-bit, right into the 939-pin CPUs
(especially 3200+/3500+/FX55). And with these cpu's - the test card
being an X850/X800/6800U for example.
There are lots of us out here who really need to know how much of an
impact going from a 333FSBMhz 3000+ AthlonXP to an FX-55 will make
if we are running X800/X850's....

You are in for a treat with this game, the only bit of advice I
would give you is start the game on hard, its just awesome when you
get into it and really start to kick A55.
Not sure how the fly managed to finish the game in one afternoon, as
there is about 18-20 hours of straight game play, more if you search
every shadow for all those "specail" packs.
Yes this game isn't a 40+ hour marathon, but saddly those games are
few and far between in the FPS market. This game is about as long as
Doom3 and HL2 and it looks just as good (if not better) than those
two and the game play / involvement leaves them both for dust. HL2
came close in places, but in others was just a slog, and as for
doom3 well what game play?
