| | (Post a comment) » NVIDIA nForce4 SLI Intel Edition Performance PreviewAfter years of providing chipsets for AMD processors only, today NVIDIA officially unveils their first chipset for the Intel Pentium platform: the nForce4 SLI Intel Edition. As its name implies, this new chipset is based on the same fundamental technologies found in today's nForce4 SLI chipset for the Athlon 64, including GigE with firewall, Serial ATA II support, 7.1-channel audio, 10 USB ports, and of course, 20 lanes of PCI Express for SLI! But how does this new chipset perform? Find out in today's article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Why does a company need to have a license to make something to
connect to something else?
Isn't it like saying I have a car, and I make my Own muffler and
exaust pipe to connect to the engine? The engine is a, say... GM
engine? in a GM car.
That is something I don't understand and would like some explaining.
Thank you.

Good article, although not sure I agree with the last sentence. I
don't think nVidia not being allowed to to release an Intel chipset
had to do with any standards on 3rd party chipset quality. It's
probably more to do with them both not having a licence and
supporting the AMD platform, and the fact that chipset sales were
actually quite lucrative for Intel IIRC, and they wouldn't want a
high-end competitor.

Yes, I had a decision to make, focus on platform performance or
graphics performance. I didn't have time to run benches for both.
You can see which decision I made, you'll see platform performance
focused more in the retail motherboard reviews so I figured I'd
cover gaming performance now. Hope this clears everything up.

Yeah, would have been nice to see memory performance and disk I/O
compared to other Intel chipsets as well as the AMD NForce4. Is the
Intel NForce4 memory controller able to make up ground on the Athlon
64's memory controller? Brandon wasn't born yesterday though, so
I'm guessing that a video card oriented preview was directly related
to either time constraints or *only* part of Intel's/NVidia's
non-disclosure expiring or both.
