 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » ATI founder faces insider trading allegationsSympatico-MNS-CBC News (yeah, I'm saying wtfizzle too...), reports.
The shares of the computer graphics chipmaker were worth more than $7 million when the gifts were made in April 2000.
However, they lost half their value in two days after the company announced on May 24 that it would miss analysts' expectations and post a loss for the quarter spanning March to May 2000.
The OSC's enforcement branch alleges Ho was aware of that information and managed to maximize his tax benefit by donating the shares in advance of the profit warning, thus avoiding a $3.6-million decline in the value of his gifts. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Interesting....thanks for the explanation.
I've always thought the idea of letting companies buy stock in other
companies was a bit flawed. This probably accounts for a big
portion of stocks that are held today, but does anyone else see the
problem with letting companies hold each others stock in a
competitive business??
Lets say that we took a couple longtime rival football teams like
the Bears and Packers, and put them in control of a small portion of
each other's salary cap. Probably not the smartest idea eh?

Basically you are looking at it this way
Shares work by people buying into what they consider is a stable and
profitable company. So say Joe Blogs goes "Hey company A makes
these really cool devices that I think are going to sell really
well, I'll buy stocks in them". Obviously if they do sell well,
he's made a good decision because the stocks he owns go up in
value.
But if company A says to company B (company B holds heaps of shares
in company A)
"Hey company B, we have managed our money really badly. I'll do
you a deal, we'll buy all of our shares back off you at their
current good price, then we'll announce that we are going bank rupt.
This way you'll get all your money back (but none of the other share
holders will because their share prices will drop after company A
announces their bankrupt status). Then company A's executives will
take millions of dollars along with them to company B and become
execs of that company, because company B feels good about the inside
trade they just did.
This is one very simple example, there are heaps of other ways it
can be done - but that's basically how it can work.

Because it is "publicly" traded stock and if you move it
around based on insider information then you are cheating the
shareholders.

I never completely understood how this stuff works or whats so bad
about it. If a little bird whispers something in your ear and you
feel like dumping half your stock on a whim, why the hell shouldn't
you be able to??

What a Ho this guy is!!, unfortunately for him (or Ho) the more they
investigate this guy's stock trading practices, the more they will
find.
Is'nt this the second thing they've nailed this Ho for? This guy is
going to the jail, but seeing as he is probably in Canada, probably
a jaccussi.
The new R620 GPU....code named the "Prison" chip.
