| | (Post a comment) » PowerColor RADEON X800 XL AGP ReviewWhile the X800 XL is quickly gaining a loyal following among ATI enthusiasts, the card was initially launched in PCI Express format only, requiring enthusiasts to purchase a new motherboard and graphics card if they wanted to upgrade. However, late last February ATI announced the X800 XL AGP, providing an upgrade path for these consumers. PowerColor is one of ATI's first board partners with a card available and it's up for review today. See how it performs against cards ranging from the RADEON 9800 PRO and X800 PRO/XT, all the way up to the GeForce 6600 GT, 6800, and 6800 GT in this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Gt overclocks to ultra levels easyly and it is free.
SM 3 support is good long term investment
8X S AA is very smooth
Nvidia allows to set Anisotropic filtering to high quality,
disabling all optimisations for maximal image quality
So i still prefer BFG Tech 6800 GT OC

not much better. these ati cards do shaders better and that really
boosts their half life2 frames. and that game needs all the frames
it can get. (its sub 60 fps with a gt more often)
doom3 is irrelevant as ati and nvidia card play it fast enough
plus you can usually get close to the 6800gt with just a regular
6800, so basically, SCREW the gt, ultra unless youve got that
"problem" of needing the fastest.

ati screwed up the last year. whats up with only pci-e stuff? their
prices too. makes it hard to abandon nvidia (who doesnt often let ya
down) when proices thei cards like they are the market leader (maybe
they are but not in my segment). ive heard the rumors of bad drivers
on ati cards (not that nvidia is by any way even close to
perfect)....
whelp they lost me... ill probably be getting a 6600gt or 6800
becasue ati is friggin clueless.

If you're looking for a pci-e card then the XL is the obvious
choice. The GT is only faster by a noticable amount in doom3, and
even then both cards run the game fast enough for 95% of gamers'
tastes. The last computer I build was a A64 3800+ and a X800 XL,
needless to say the thing was fast as hell in every game i threw at
it.
