 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » Battlefield 2 Demo ReviewThe Battlefield 2 demo is out and you're not sure if you should download all 560MB of it for just one map! Then again, Wake Island was just one map too and it was worth it. Jakub played the demo... a lot... and more... and then some... and has come back with his impressions of the game, good and bad, and comments on the vehicles, and units, and of course his favorite subject: snipers! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Sorry to ask this, but what's the best practice for using air-to-air
missiles? I either seem to spend an incredible amount of missiles to
bring single air targets down, or they just constantly go astray
even if i lock onto the target and fire. With all the flight
simulators so far, they were really fire and forget, with BF2 I
don't know. What am I missing? Thanks for your help guys!
p.s. I hope they release a demo update or something, the ingame
server browser is crap and tends to locking up. :-(

Really? I tried to install under Win2k, and got an error.
Just went out and got XP, and rebuilt my system (with a new 3700+
processor, of course :)

The nVidia drivers supplied with the demo crash my system. Ain't
that grand?
(I have an MSI 5900XT-VTD on an Intel 865GBF motherboard, and a p4
3.2E processor).

There was some lame bitchin in the beginning of this review.
"Who presses 'j' to talk?"
J is used for all chat, k is used for team chat and l is used for
squad chat. I don't see the complaint here.
"How come going prone is a toggle but the crouch key must be
held down?"
This is how the game is designed. Crouching is more temporary than
going prone.
"Why must keys be unbound before they can be re-bound as
something else?"
Wow you have to press escape before reassigning a key. I'm sure
that will waste 1second x 100 keys = 100 secs of your time. And
maybe a few more seconds when you go back and tweak your controls.
"Why does the game tell me that the left Alt key is bound when
it isn't?"
Wow that might be a bug?!?!?!!
"Someone explain to me why I must select a kit, select a spawn
point and choose "done", rather than simply selecting a
kit and double-clicking a spawn point, or picking the spawn point
and double-clicking the kit?"
Come on another nitpicker. That is such a travesty.
Why open a review with some stupid $$$ bitchin unless you really
didn't like the game? You could have spent some time getting your
facts straight and talking about major parts of the game that you
absolutely glossed over.
LIke you mention nothing about sprinting or stamina or the fact you
jump alot higher. Sprinting is a big change in the game.
The review states 3rd person views aren't available in vehicles.
Not true. Press your 'C' key.
The review fails to mention another key improvement in the game.
The 'Q' key. The radio commands are mo

I'm on Win2000 and it works fine for me, aside from issues that
apparently others are having as well. I'm on a Radeon 9700 Pro (5.2
drivers) and have had BF2 crash to desktop once. Outside of the
buggy server browser, this game looks to be a winner.

Ya, the team balance sucks. I am always MEC, and it's 17 vs 30,
which kind of ruins it. I tend to play on Canadian servers as a
result - they don't seem to care much, and teams are more balanced
as a result.
I'm annoyed by the WinXP-only issue. I like Windows 2000. A simpler
interface; I don't care that it recognizes when I put a blank CD
into the burner - I'd rather use Nero, so I end up just clicking
"Cancel".
My ATI card works fine, no reboots (X800PE).
The "Find A Server/Join A Game" interface is terrible.
1942 and BFV were ok (not great - Tribes 2 was the best interface).
Laggy to the point where I wonder if my computer has locked up.
One of the things I like is the ability to be relatively hidden. In
BFV, you could always find a player crouching - players stood out
way too much. In this game, you blend in.
Unfort, it's going to be rare to get a good game - teamwork and
co-ordination are even more important. Too many idiots, not enough
time to play. Time to join a clan, I guess.

Jakub,
Going to try to answer some of your questions politely. First, the
comment about why many prefer US side...
Exact same thing was happening for a while with Desert Combat. If
you checked DC forums, many of such players' kept whining about auto
team balance and how they hated Iraqi side because they didn't want
to shoot "americans", since it was
"anti-american". That is utter stupidity, by the way. It's
not at all surprising actually. The game is primarily targeted at a
North American audience. Most of the released videos show M1A2
rather than T-90, or an American point of view. EA probably thought
it might've been demoralizing for American audience if the early
videos always showed a T-90 blowing up US soldiers and such. Sure,
there were some instances where T-90 was shown but hardly ever from
the inside first person view. As in DC, however, expert players will
mostly be joining the MEC side, while a lot of n00bs will join US
and whine because they'll be getting their a$$es handed to them.
Second, why the MEC and not Russia...
It got the inspiration from Desert Combat and wanted to continue
that tradition. Russia and US have absolutely no reason of fighting,
and if they ever did, the nukes would quickly end it. They wanted an
excuse for a desert terrain as a direct contrast to China, which
would have a different (big growth) type of terrain. Russian
weapons/gear was a no brainer because of their power, even though
Iraq, for example, had a mix of weapons from different countries,
including US.
Also, to a guy who said Russian stuff is cheaper and older. Cheaper
yes, older, no. Ok, some of it is but so is some
