| | (Post a comment) » 3D Performance with Battlefield 2 Demo Part 2: Mainstream CardsLast week we took a look at the Battlefield 2 demo's performance with the latest and greatest high-end cards, today we're evaluating performance with a handful of mainstream cards. We've gathered ATI's RADEON X600 XT, X700 PRO and X800 256MB, as well as GeForce 6800 and GeForce 6600 GT. Our goal? Figure out which cards delivered the best performance and image quality. A lot of people are probably interested if having 128MB is
detrimental.. and if so (presumably at high detail setting), how the
cards would stack up in medium quality settings...

Sure, I may even do another follow-up article to the original
article on unlocking the 6800.

please include seperate results for unlocked 6800, and another for
unlocked and overclocked 6800 (perhaps 400/850).

Oh... right. But still, AGP isn't totally dead (yet). Heheh
I'll have to run some tests on my 9800 Pro if I get some time.

There is no such thing as a 9800 PCI-E. And as you stated, it would
probably perform similarly to the X700 PRO. The X600 is for the
9500/9600 users.

Oh yeah... why the hell are we including an X600 in this roundup and
not a 9800 Pro? My guess is the 9800 Pro would perform almost as
well as the X700 Pro. Sure, it's not going to win any performance
competitions, but when you can get a 9800 Pro for $120 or less these
days, it's still worth a thought. :(

Where the hell did Quake 3 come from? And the GPU still plays a
significant role in Q3 unless you're running at lower resolutions...
it's just that you get 500 FPS vs. 350 FPS.
Anyway, you should be talking about HL2, Far Cry, Doom 3, etc.
rather than mentioning a five year old game - otherwise we should
start talking about the original Unreal Tournament and Half-Life.
:p

if you check out the gamespot review where they do a full system
test, it shows that a faster processor makes hardly any difference
in this game. going from a p4 2.8ghz to a p4 3.8ghz only gave a 1fps
speed increase. the gfx card plays a very important part in this
game, not like in quake 3 or unreal tournament 2004.
best to save up for a much more powerful gfx card
