This article is nothing more than a rant. The author couldn't
connect to the game and has a huge nostalgic backflash. Quake just
doesn't fit in here in any kind of way, it's such a different
concept. But there is still some merit to the rant.
Tell the WoW-addict, who ist working for rank 14 for 3 months,
something about balanced pvp.

If you are going to post a review of a game atleast try playing for
longer than 30 minutes and then quiting, just to later say the
complete game was boring... I point and shake my finger at this

All the screenshots are from pre-searing... I wonder if the author
bothered to check out the actual main portion of the game before
writing a review on it?

From the perspective of a seasoned Guild Wars player, there are low
points to the gameplay. Big surprise: it isn't perfect. However,
you managed to miss the deeper purpose of this game, which is
recombinant hardcore PvP competition. Being from the FPS genre, you
appreciate knowing your opponent. To be good at Guild Wars, you
have to know your opponents, as well. You have to be able to
recognize builds based on class combinations and a few skills fired
to assess the threat you're up against, and what sort of prevention
you'll need to be using. You need to know the current meta-game;
e.g. if you bring hex removal to a match that has no enemy hexes,
then you've wasted a skill slot. Your eight-person build (GvG and
Tombs) can't work against every other build out there, but you can
attempt to maximize its effectiveness, and that's another aspect of
the fun.
You need fast-twitch reflexes, but you also need field awareness.
If you're a monk, then you need to know where your teammates are and
whether they are in healing range, or how close the enemy is, and
how much time you have before that warrior reaches you. Should you
run immediately, or is there time for another healing spell? Is the
opponent's cast time long enough for you to successfully interrupt?
Decisions like these are what separate players from veterans, much
as you discussed with Quake.
In essence, this elaborate rock-paper-scissors is a delicate balance
of endless retorts, and only when you've gained enough experience to
understand the intricacies of what PvP combat is all about can you
begin to appreciate its true depth. The developers didn't
"try" to develop a

This is such a rediculous review, I'm actuall hoping its some sort
of joke just to generate some flame. I mean if the author was
actually remotely aware of what a role playing game is he/she would
not be reviewing this one as though it were a 5 cent ride on the
pony they just got off at the mall.
Get your A.D.D in check, maybe you should review male prostitutes,
if gettin off quick is your thing.

I just bought GW game yesterday (12/23/05) so I'm arriving late to
the party.
I've played a variety of on-line game genres, but have resisted
MMORPG's. GW makes sense for non-hardcore players who enjoy
adventuring, but don't have unlimited amounts of disposable free
time.
That said, I think this article is SO lame and a waste of time. The
author is obviously burned out on playing MMORPG's and comes off
sounding like an elitist (effectively saying, "People that play
this game are naive and simpletons.") Why bother writing an
article like this? I detest %%@!&!% &@&&%$ and her music, but I
wouldn't spend the time writing an article about it.
Maybe the author should lay off the Doritos and find a new hobby.
