» The Witcher Interview: Part 2

Today we conclude our new interview with CDProjekt, developers of The Witcher, one of the better RPGs we saw this year at E3. We also have newer, fancier, snazzier screenshots for those looking just for eye candy.

Some screenshots are in fact too dark. It is important to remember
that only last 11 screenshots at the end of the interview are from
the current version of the game. Other are older. Which is important
because the look of the game was changing quite fast recently
(shadows, effects, characters trees/grass/bushes etc). In fact we
reached the stage where we've finished all the major engine
modifications so further improvement will not be that dramatically
visible within next months…

Hi all,

I post my answer once again (first time was in the first part of the
interview) because we’re accused quite heavily and in my opinion not
that fair and without wider knowledge. People from abroad may have
an impression that we are a company which is doing a really bad job
here in Poland which is not true. We are perceived here as the
company which takes care of our customers. We constantly win all the
surveys among gamers in this matter and recently (two months ago)
out technical support won the competition in local Computer Bild
Spiele (2nd biggest magazine about games) for the best tech support
among all gaming companies on the market (I think 12 in total). So
below is my answer:

Hi Polish NWN user!

I'm really sorry that we've disappointed you so much that you
decided to write your complaints about our work here.

As you probably know we do our best to provide as good service as we
can. Many Polish gamers can confirm that.

I suppose that you don't know our situation as a local distributor
in Poland. As you most probably remember Polish NWN release was
late more that 6 months in comparison to the international release.
I wasn't our fault. All the materials needed for localization
arrived from western publisher 4 months after international release!
You may ask how we achieved making high quality Polish version
within 6 weeks? That is our secret but please believe me it wouldn't
be possible without our huge determination. Determination to bring
the product to the market as fast as we can with the highest
possible quality at the same time!

Our job as a local distributor is not easy. If something is wrong it
always looks

I smell someone who hasn't been gruntled yet. And has likely posted
two quadrillion times about his lack of gruntles on the NWN boards.

You probably don't even know that CDProjekt is unable to publish
correctly patched polish edition of NWN. So it's unbelievable to
expect that they would create game being worth playing. Besides, the
whole concept of this game (the guy lumping from village to village
and killing worms) seems to be archaic a bit.

And finally, RPG re-defined?! Well, who in whole CDProjekt can put
new definitions to RPG?

Man, this looks like an RPG I could get into. I've never been
attracted to MMORPG's for a lack of a great story you can get in
single player campaigns. For me, the story is the game. I want to
take a journey without fighting for rank. One that I can look
forward to coming back to over and over. A journey that is what I,
as a single player, make it. Kudos to CDProjekt! The game looks
fabulous!

The game sounds more promising in this interview than the previous
one. As #5 said, it sounds like they are trying to make a Fallout
with better graphics. I hope they succeed! (But won't bet on it)

They wanted to do their own translations. Personally I think it
adds a bit of character.

they are.

Sounds very promising. Anyone aspiring to create something that
will match the quality of the Fallout RPGs is a good thing in my
book - whether or not they get there, at least they're *trying*.

Screenshots looks rather dark, though - glad I'll be playing on a
(bright) LCD!

Firingsquad. We know that CDProjekt is speaking a second or third
language when doing you a favor by granting an interview. It is very
clear from the name of their studio alone. You look extremely
unprofessional for not doing a once-over and cleaning up the minor
errors.
