» F.E.A.R. Demo Review

It weighs in a 646MB and you're wondering whether you should download it for a mere 15 minutes of gameplay. Download it? I'd do it on a 56K line. Heck, it's probably worth etching all 5 billion 1s and 0s on your hard drive by hand.

My take:

first time through was absolutely class... i was genuinely as scared
as the first time i played doom2 when i was about 11. I then played
through all those same action scenes again in slow mo making the
most of shotguns to various body parts, grenades to the legs... prox
mines to take out 4 guys in an orgiastic bloodbath... ah it was
class.

As for system performance... i only have an old dell p4 2.53ghz pc
with 768mb pc2100 ram and a bfg 6800gt on win2k... but i ran it on
highest lcd resolution with everything but soft shadows on max. Ran
awesomely during any action sequence (without resorting to fraps
shenanigans) but stuttered between zones presumably due to my ram
and general crapness.. Can't see what all the spec-bashing bother
is... :)

Well, after reading all these reviews...I'm going to play the game!
That's right, I'm going to play NOLF. I previously couldn't get
into the idea of playing a girl character in a game but with all the
reviews, I'm just too curious about what I must be missing. Not to
mention, my current system shouldn't have any trouble with it on
high settings.

i agree mate
fps are so linear that they have been a little stale
hl2 was ok but lacked a true atosphere that really got you

hope the full game runs like this and theres not to many videos as
they can ruin a game

look
its a demo right
i played it and it is very atmospheric i got that creppy feelng up
my spine havnt had that since return to wolfenstein.

the AI was ok it was a nicely polished game no AI ever comes and
hunts you down if you go back the way, and we all go back the way
now and again for some respite

they are encapsulated in that part of the script

Best AI to date was FAR CRY and it was agame that was mainly played
outside.

This is gonna be another DOOM3 or AREA 51 but it looks and feels
good, so stop complaining get a life, get a girlfriend.

Yep, and (thankfully) you get to kill a multitude of Americans too.

Fun, eh?

I found the demo to be rather boring. Maybe it's because I am just
not into this style of shooter. It reminded me too much of
Counter-Strike, which I hate, even though I like the concept. I
know, I know... wtf does this have to do with CS? I don't know, but
it just gives me the same vibe.

I didn't see a way to disable head bob. I hope I just missed it, or
that it's coming in the retail version.
