Well seriously, shame on all of you who don't know what multiplayer
can bring. Quake 3 was the absolute daddy of all multiplaying ever
created. These games are about skill and the chase... not deaths
dude to generic randomness that seems to coincide with 'reality.'
The quake series are populated with the more hardcore players imo.
Never had any clans within these 64 player games that simulate
missing every shot, but the groovy quakewars experiences from qw and
q3a have always felt so solid and sure... whether it was moaning
about lg whoring or getting a laugh from a gauntlet kill... DM is
the mutts nutts and I want to fellate every prong on that glorious
water potential...

good point dm/ctf could get old, but you played longer and it would
seem like other parts of a game could make it better

Not sure how to apply your words logically.
His coding was still a mess though. Take a look.
Some may say that Q3 success rode off the back of a lot of hype. I
say that he was just the first to do it.
I have produce code for a number of successful medical equipment
products. I did not make a lot of money for myself, but it was easy
work and I was probably overpaid.

Since I'll I've seen of Q4 is this preview, I can't really make a
judgement. I don't even consider single-player campaigns to be
important; even if I buy Q4, I doubt that I'd bother with it.
However, I think all the recent FPSs really have gotten away from
what was fun, and have tried to go in all different directions, just
muddying the waters.
Post-Q3A, I still feel that the best multiplayer FPS experience was
(and still is) RTCW. I've tried game after game that has come out
since, and I always lose interest within minutes. I could play RTCW
endlessly, still (if I could find a happening server, that is =)
And for just a quick bit of fun, nothing beats Q3A as far as I'm
concerned.
The same goes for Q3A, and Q2. I started FPS-ing with Q2 (online at
least), and I love Q1, but I've never found a server that had enough
people to play with.
UT simply never had the depth and tight feel of Q2/Q3. HL/HL2
multiplayer is a joke. CS was just a campfest and favored
randomness over skill (not to say that there weren't a great many
skillful CS players, of course). BF1942 was just a little too
plodding. Tribes had some awesome concepts, but just never caught
on enough.
I have relatively high hopes for Q4. It might end up being the
first game I put a lot of time into since RTCW.
