Interesting point. Yeah, I honestly don't see why they benchmark
these things at 1600x1200 - I guess they do it to show you how slow
it will run!! LMAO. The benchmarking is nice though, as it lets me
see where my X800XL will run the game. Right now, I have an AMD
Athlon 64 3200+ with a gig of dual channel RAM, so I should be set
for the game. :) Also, I think ATI's driver updates helped the
game, as the X800XL is out of the 48fps realm and into the 60s.

This is review is useless. You tested the mid range performance
cards but the system is an Athlon FX 57 ?! That´s not even
close to my gaming rig based on a 6600gt and a 754 A64 3200. I still
don´t know how this game will run in a system more like the
one I use. You should try benchmark a budget system, not a budget
card in an ultra high end system. That´s just too unrealistic.
BTW where is the 1280*1024 results? If you´re talking about
mainstream, that will be the case of 100% mid range LCD monitors out
there (17 and 19 in).

My 6800 oc'd 410cpu 820 mem plays just fine on 1280 x 960. With
anioscopic but no AA and soft shadows turned off. Sure it dips down
into the 20's 10% of the time but it plays very well if you ask me.
That 6800 is probably the best investment I ever made, all praise
NVIDIA. I got a p4 2.4g 1gig o ram ecet and a honkin 23 CRT woot!
I can't believe firingsquad hated the soft shadows. I think they
make everything more realistic, as long as you arent staring at them
all the time, which in a FPS I should hope you aren't. But I really
can't ever turn them on. At least Firingsquad's hatred of them
makes me feel better about not having them. I think ATI and NVIDIA
should get some kinda soft shadow hardware call that fixes the flaws
pointed out in this article and the steep hardware req.

I should update my drivers. Considering i'm using the old 5.2
Catalysts I feel somewhat screwed in terms of the performance i'm
getting.
On my A64 3000 @ 2.4, 1GB PC3200 DC and x800 XL AGP @ 420/555 I am
achieving roughly the same (if not less) performance as JamesDax on
1280x1024 and even 1024x860

I ran the game at 800x600x32 c/ no AA or AF. In game settings are:
Computer settings all at medium.
Graphics settings are custom as follows:
effects detail - max
model decals - max
Vol lights - on
everything else med
Test Results:
FPS:
min - 19
avg - 45
max - 109
FPS Disturbution:
14% below 25
36% between 25 - 40
50% above 40
Anyway, the game looks good and runs smooth. Not to bad for an
Athlon XP 2600+ c/ 1Gb PC2100 and a GF6600(non GT).

FX-57 eliminates bottlneck...true.
1. Who the hell has an FX-57 paired up (or would) with an x700,
lmao! That's a $1,000 cpu and a $150 gpu!! This makes about as much
sense as benchmarking benchmarks, ie. 3d2k series.
2. Even if they were going for all out video card performance...why
1GB of ram? I've seen F.E.A.R. use 900MB "when I'm
alt-friggin'-tabbed!!"
3. 1600x1200 on an x700? Are you kiddin' me? Why? It just creates
more work that produces useless results imo.
4. Why not set things up on a "this is what you're gonna
get" layout?
a. budget system - 640x480,800x600,1024x768
This would include Athlon XP's (1.5~2.0)and P4's (1.7~2.66), 512MB
ram, and GPU's Nvidia (4800,5900) and Ati (9550,9600,x600) Folks
with rigs like that WON'T BE PLAYING @ 1600x1200, so why bother
rubbin' it in?
b. mid range system - 800x600,1024x768,1280x1024
P4 530/AMD 64 3000+, 1GB RAM, 6600GT/x700 or 6800GT/x800xl
c. high end system - 1024x768,1280x1024,1600x1200
P4 670/AMD 64 4000+, 2GB RAM, 6800GT/x800xl or 7800GTX/x1800xt
d. dual core love - 1024x768,1280x1024,1600x1200,something bigger
P4 820/AMD X2 3800+, 2GB RAm, 6800GT/x800xl or 7800GTX/x1800xt or
SLI

Well, I'm picking up the game tomorrow so I'll give it a go and post
my benchmarks if you like. BTW, my 6600 is running at 500/325.
Anyway, I think I should be able to run 800x600 c/ med settings. Or
maybe 640x480 with max settings and some AA and AF might not be to
bad.
