| | (Post a comment) » NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS Performance PreviewWith a 425MHz graphics core and 500MHz memory, NVIDIA's GeForce 6800 GS is well-equipped to take on the ATI RADEON X1600 XT. NVIDIA has even spiced up the package further by using the 7800 GT PCB and throwing on copper cooling, making this board ideal for even higher clock speeds. See how this new card performs in both single card and SLI configurations in today's latest titles inside. And of course, don't forget the overclocking! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

If I had a 6800GS I definetly would try sm3 soft shadows in FEAR.
Sure why not.. after all I can. HDR.. yup, definetly would try that
too. More options the better. Sure, I wont be able to play through
the game at 1600x1200 with it on, but, turning down the resolution
isn't going to make my eyes explode, or something.
Personally, I question why the comparisons to old X800's are made in
the first place. Its like Radeon 8500 and 9700pro. Sure the 8500 was
a great card for its time, and maybe there some older DX8 games
where they are somewhate close in performance, but the 9700pro is a
dx9 card which can run very nice special effects, even though the
framerate might drop a little...

522mhz Core and 1200mhz Memory.

You go ahead and try FEAR's sm3 soft shadows on you 6800gs LOL. SM3
+ HDR on a 6800GS? Valve's HDR hack, ok Mr. Carmack. Hate to burst
your bubble, but when both cards are at PLAYABLE settings, they'll
being using the SAME feature set. The difference will be that the GS
is slower and cost more.
I bet you were excited that a fx5200 was direct X 9 feature complete
and would hand a direct x 8 4200TI its butt LOL. Pass the pipe. I
am all for features if there is enuff grunt to use it. Might I
suggest a $300 7800GT.

You are completely correct as always mr anonymous.
We should compare a (best price you could find) $154 Connect3D
X800GTO, which has been around for quite a while and lowered in
price, and unlocked to 16 pipelines, and overclocked,
to a stock reference 6800GS.
Not to burst your bubble, but no unlocking or overclocking will make
that GTO magically develop SM3 hardware, grow HDR support (not just
Valve's hack that works even with fx cards), or video processing
like Purevideo or AVIVO. You either need to find a hidden stash of
X1800's at the end of the rainbow, or get a nVidia card. Yesterday's
technology unlocked and overclocked to infinity is still just
yesterday's technology.

Its a decent card until find out a $154 C3d x800gto from monarch
will OWN it. Think x800xt pe+.
Average after unlocking and overclocking stock:
7800gt>c3d x800gto>x800gto2>6800Ultra>6800GT>6800GS

Problem : Bad video quality.
Solution : Look around for better hardware/software.
Bottom Line : Maybe that p0rn you're downloadin is just bad quality.
