Civ4 has a historic flavor and coloration, but is not intended to be
a simulation of history, just a board game. As such it is excellent.

Yes, it distributes everything very evenly. One of the things I
actually liked about Civ 3 was the battle for resources. If you
didn't have coal, no railroads, if you didn't have oil, you were
screwed, and you'd have to fight for them.
Civ 4 I find boring compared to the past 3. In the maps I've played
(and I play on Noble and above) there's rarely any squabble over
resources. Religion is a nice idea, but like many have said, the
fact that they don't want to offend anyone makes religion almost
just for show. Especially once you get free religion.
And the 3D engine, did we wait years for this? Because the Civ
franchise has always done fine without one. It's unnessary
overhead. I play it with all the graphics turned off (it's slow on
my 3ghz/nvidia 6600 machine otherwise) zoomed out to one constant
level.
Actually, one more gripe they should have had end game movies and
there's no graphics for the space race. None at all. There should
be a movie for winning the space race, conquest, even losing.
I've never before been so bored so quickly by a Civ game.

Quote=" Yeah, that's right, Civilization doesn't have real
strategy. Nor does chess"
Hands down the dumbest thing I've ever read on the internet.

Hey, Jakub, thanks for the review. I do have a few questions about
it, though. You make frequent reference to "spamming the world
with cities" in Civ III. What exactly do you mean by that, and
how did it detract from Civ III? Also, does Civ IV keep colonies,
or did it do away with them?
Also, you mention the potential uneven distribution of resources in
Civ III. Well, the same thing can hold true in real life. Are you
saying that Civ IV distributes the resources more evenly on the
world map, that the distribution makes less of a difference in
gameplay, or both? Does Civ IV at least keep the concept that
certain resources are useless until you reach a certain technology
level (for example, is uranium useless to a Stone Age civ)?

You guys at Firingsquad do realise that you gave Civ III a higher
score than Civ IV, even though you knocked it in your review, right?
It seems kind of wrong...

sure there is, a tank can run out of fuel, and thus the crew are
screwed. Besides Civ 4 has really done a good job of eliminating
stupid things like cavemen taking down a tank.
Oh and also, think of it this way, when a marine takes down a
battlecruiser in StarCraft....man thats realistic.

Thats not gonna stop a tank and a 13 century soldier would rather
run for his life then get stuck on under the treads of a tank. Sorry
but no way can a 13 century division stop a tank platoon.
