| | (Post a comment) » Dell preparing a 30" widescreen monster?Dell is rumored to be putting the finishing touches on a 30" widescreen display that has been prepped to take on Apple's high-end 30" Cinema Display LCD. According to Neowin, the new monitor will be dubbed the 3007WFP (shouldn't it be FPW?) and boasts a 14ms response time with a 700:1 contrast ratio, 400cd/m2 brightness, and a native res of 2560x1600, making 7800 GTX SLI a must if you want decent frame rates with today's latest games. The monitor will also ship with 4 USB ports and a 9-in-1 media reader.
No price was announced, but the release date is reportedly Dec 21st. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Well it blows away the resolution quality of even the costliest and
best HDTV's, but I wonder if games are playable, if so you would
need to upgrade graphcis cards every 6 months.

2560x1600, making 7800 GTX SLI
Can even 7800 handle a game like HL2 in that resolution? That
resolution is too high for gaming I think.

this is why I hate LCDs. 2560x1600 only unless you want your image
to look like dither hell.

If you want to run at 1920x1200, I'd recommend you buy a smaller LCD
that runs at a native 1920x1200. LCD's look best at their native
res. The 2560x1600 native monitor wouldn't look as good running at
1920x1200. However, if screen size is more important than clarity,
then get the big one. Otherwise, save yourself some bucks and stick
with a single DVI 1920x1200 (unless you plan to upgrade to a
dual-dvi card soon.)
Due to my slow AGP card (9800 pro), I decided to get a 1280x1024 LCD
to play as many games at native res as possible. (I kinda wished I
went with 1600x1200, because 800x600 scales PERFECTLY to 1600x1200,
and would've looked better than 800x600 on a 1280x1024 panel.)

The 20" and the 24" are pretty damned awesome. Now they're
doing a 30"! Sheesh, with as pricey as teh others are I can
only assume the 30" is going to be at least 2 grand.
