» Xbox 360 Racing Shootout: PGR3, NFS:MW, RR6

What makes a game fun? Do videogame journalists do a good job at figuring that out? Alan has a three-part article trying to answer that very question. Before he answers this question, he has to review some games himself, so for today's article, Alan takes a look at the three racing games for the Xbox 360 and try to identify what makes them tick and what makes a racing game fun. Part 1 of 3.

Reviews like this are pretty useless because they are all about
personal preference.. It's pretty obvious the reviewer in this
article prefers arcade over realisme, he think realisme is boring,
which is all fine but still personal preference.. You cannot compare
NFS with PGR and RR, they are so different.. I personally don't even
qualitfy RR and NFS as racing games, they're over the top arcade
racers, just like say Burnout.. PGR3 is my choice because I like to
drive realistic looking cars on realistic tracks with mainly
realistic gameplay.. Yes, it's only about racing and nothing else,
so if you get bored by that the game is obviously not for you.. But
since PGR3 by far is the most popular game of the 3 in this article
on Xbox Live, I'd say most people don't get bored with it very
fast.. Racing is fun, even if it's just racing and nothing else..

Racing with cars that feel totaly unrealistic is boring son in my
view NFS or Ridge Racer are not even contenders.

PGR3 is about skill and competetion it's off-line part is only
pratice. But it's a shame PGR2 is better in every department except
graphics and sound :-(

I totally agree with the author. My wife and I have all three games
for the XBox 360 and NFSMW spends most of it's time in the drive on
the 360 while the other two sit on the shelf!

Also if you haven't seen NFSMW on a wide sdreen HDTV in 1080i
(1920x1080) you just haven't seen it.

In what universe is a GTI "The original rice rocket"? And
there are a lot of cars that are less reliable than an Audi...like
BMWs and MBs. Unless of course you're talking about late 80s, early
90s Audis, and then you're 100% correct.

I see there are many PGR fans here. Well, I must say that while PGR3
is a good game, Most Wanted kicks in the groin when it comes to
replayability. There's so much more in MW then in PGR3, except for
the car selection. The cockpit view goes a long way in terms of
realism and the fun factor, but MW gives you cops and customization.
The graphics are indeed great, no two ways about it, but racing the
same pretty tracks over and over can get quite boring. Free roam
mode would boost this game's replayability factor big time. The cars
do feel different from eachother and handle great. There's a lot to
be said about sound and the PGR3 cars sing splendidly. If this game
came out on the pc I'd definitely nab a copy. As it stands, I'm not
about to spend $400 on a less than perfect console just to be able
to play PGR3. Overall, NFS:MW is a better value. Now, we can stay up
all night and argue until we're blue in the face, but MW does more,
is more fun, and not to mention a better value for your money. Meybe
when PGR4 comes out they will add more to the formula, and then
meybe we'll talk again.

Oh, I get it. My bad assumption. If you weren't anonymous I would
