| | (Post a comment) » Intel: A Core New LowWatching Intel the past few years is like watching a formerly great boxer who took one too many hits in the chin. Stumbling around, not really coherent, but still dangerous because of its size. This year, they're looking to hit a whole new low. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Why is Intel not becoming innovative anymore? Easy, there is no
more Andy Grove at the helm, like there was in the 90's.
The real Innovators are SUN with their 8core, 4threads/core
processor (Niagara). Sure, it has a shared FPU but its the fastest
and least expensive server for handeling 32 Java virtual machines.
That's innovation and they continue to Innovate. No one makes unix
Machines like SUN does. Period.

The comments on best bang for the buck is incredibly biased towards
the tasks that one does with the processor. If gaming is your
primary concern, then AMD is where it's at. However, if you're more
inclined to audio/video/photo editing tasks, Intel is by far the
best in this catagory. The X2's from AMD may win this catagory also
at the moment, but they are also significantly more expressive than
Intel's Pentium D line. In everything else like bussiness apps,
internet, dvd playback, and other menial basic tasks, both AMD and
Intel processors are so advanced that only a benchmark could reveal
any performance difference between the two brands. Office
applications and other general productivity tasks have been
conquered since the days of the Pentium MMX and K6.
I find all this bashing of Netburst blatently hypocritical. I guess
the majority of people forgot that the Pentium 4 was superior to the
Athlon xp from 2002 to 2004? The K7 lost its performance crown at
the end of the Palomino. From that point on AMD either was in a
constant game of catch up with Intel's P4 or was simply getting its
#%% handed, especially towards the end of the K7 line (e.g. xp 3200+
my #%%, it would get creamed by a 2.66 GHz P4 B, all the
"C" series P4's left xp in the dust). Netburst is now
getting long in tooth, but let's not forget that at one time is
ruled the roost.
AMD may have been the better buy back in the day, but currently it
is not. Look at the used market, and you'll find the Athlon XP
still commands a high price in comparison to the performance you get
(i.e. XP 3200+ sells for ~$200 on ebay). The Northwood Pentium 4
today is cheaper to

I literally laughed out loud at "Wall-Mart." The rest of
the article was pretty interesting too, I guess.

I'm soooo late coming into this, but it seems to me that Jakub is
just really $!&$$$ that Intel is calling their new processor line
"Core". That's the "new low" is it not? I
didn't quite get what the other comparable lows were.

biased or not, the writer has a better perspective of the IT
industry than most of the other reviewers
and no offence to some of the previous posters, but it's because of
buyers like you that Intel has got to ~75-80% share, and it's also
because of you that they are able not too lose that share too
quickly

This is just fanboy dribble. I thought a site like this was above
writing such an article. Yes AMD has far better processors atm, but
this is common knowledge, no reason to write an article saying
"OMG INTEL IS TEH EVIL111!!"

but on the data anaylists tech rostanjibad, the figures show 91
percent of the market is owned by amd while intel own 64 percent and
a further 47 goes to other makes. so i would say it is fairly even
stevens.
