(Post a comment) » Windows Vista Ready LCD Monitor Round-Up – Part 2A good monitor is supposed to last for years, but Hollywood is going to shake things up with mandatory HDCP support for high-definition video in Windows Vista. Two weeks ago, Alan discussed the need for HDCP monitors. After finally getting the last monitor in Monday morning, Alan's taking a look at 5 HDCP monitors.

How to live if you do not have HDCP? REFUSE. You are restricting my
ability to copy the media - I do not need your content. Its all dumb
action flicks and stupid pr0n anyways.

HOW DO you people in firingsqua tell if these monitors are HDCP
ready? in their specs doesn't say anything about HDCP (for example:
nec's spec doesnt mention about HDCP)
[/QUOTE]
This is the very same question I want to ask.
How can I tell if my monitor is HDCP compliant?
Also how can I tell if a video card is? Should I look for a
dedicated extra chip? Where? How is it labeled?

I'd be very surprised if a Bravia XBR did not have HDCP; nearly all
TVs released in the last year or two do, particularly if they are
expensive models like the XBR and have an HDMI input. It's computer
monitors that tend not to have HDCP.

I know what you mean. i sure feel kind of duped after reading all
the great reviews of large lcd monitors and never knowing about the
huge input problem. samsung even markets the 244t as a gaming
monitor (the site mentions lack of blurring in games). well they
didn't lie, it doesnt blur much in games. to be honest it would be
much easier to play if it DID have blurring and the input lag was
gone.
I may keep the monitor anyway and just run dual monitors, keep the
crt for games. That might be better than paying $200 to restock it
at newegg :/

Therefore I think I will keep my 244T until something better comes
along and I will sell it.
What amazes me are reviews that test this monitor and don't notice
anything about this...

Ah yes, sorry man. I did catch you mentioning those points, however,
I was looking for a little more. I guess it makes sense that these
guys would allow the input video quality of these monitors to be
significantly lower than their dedicated LCD-TV models; can't allow
any cannibalization right. I guess that was just wishful thinking,
as even the best LCD-TVs have analogue quality that is noticably
worse than quality CRT TVs. One last thing however, do you expect
newer generation multimedia LCD Monitors to include HDMI inputs? Or
will those be pretty muched limited to the LCD-TV realm? I ask
because if they did, I certainly wouldn't mind hooking up a PS3 to a
Dell 3009WFP or somthing, hehe... Anyways, thanks for the quality
article; been reading Firingsquad since the time you guys were
reviewing Maxtrox Millenniums - if any of these n00bs know what
those were.

I talked to a samsung tech higher-up and he said that the input lag
was just normal for these monitors. He seemed to know just what i
was talking about too. I explained how the mouse movement lagged
behind my actual input as compared to my CRT.
So if you play games at all, I would avoid a 244t at all costs
unless you ONLY play maybe warcraft or something else not requireing
precision. At the very least, buy from a retailer that has a no
questions asked return policy. I got mine from newegg and they
insist on making me eat a $200 restocking fee.

I tried bringing it down a notch and it did very little to resolve
the issue. In windows the motion was a bit more responsive (yet
still quite laggy) and in games the difference was
indistinguishable. Im using an evga 7800gt.
