I'm surprised that no one mentioned that the 3007wfp's are being
sold by dell reps on eBay for around $1,500.
To me that was more than acceptable for this size monitor and I got
one. It seems like a lot of people just don't get how big this
resolution is until they actually see it.
"Why not just get a 42in Plasma or LCD TV"
Because it will look like #!@! compared to 2560x1600. Trust me, I
have a SHARP AQUOS and there is no comparison.
"I could get the 24in Dell and SLI for that price"
Have you compared the two monitors side to side? Head over to Fry's
and take a look at the 23 ACD vs the 30 ACD and you will see what I
mean. 6-7 more inches is a BIG difference. Plus at $1500 it's not
as bad.
BTW at the guy (post 27 i think) who think it's all a conspiracy,
take a look at some Crysis screenshots. Photo-realistic games are
right right around the corner IMO. The game companies aren't the
ones bumping the resolutions. As stated earlier, in most cases you
have to tweak the game with ini settings to get it to go that high.
I think you really need to try it for yourself before passing
judgment... I went from 19" Ultrasharp and my games took on a
whole new life.

And another thing. PLEASE run the tests again with the updated
Catalyst drivers (6.4). According to ATI, these updated drivers
made improvements, especially for Crossfire (like 5% in many games).
This 5% may close the gap and make you think more about if there is
much difference between the x1900 and the 7900.

Is it just me or did it seem like Radeon was better in all tests
that had 8xAF on??? Why do people always ignore those kind of
results?

As a casual gamer who will use this display primarily for graphics
work and coding, I am interested in the LCD image clarity when
playing games at 1280x800 resolution. I am hoping the typical
graphical issues introduced when using an LCD at a non-native
resolution will be negligible due to a 1:4 direct scaling in pixels,
but I would appreciate it if FiringSquad could give it a look in
part two of this review. I believe many others with older video
cards will be interested in finding out more about this as well.

I got the Dell 3007WFP Monday at 6PM. It's currently Wednesday at
2:45AM and I am still on a gaming binge, trying all different games
on this monitor and still totally impressed (and often frustrated by
the ATI control panel... slow buggy POS).
To support the new monitor, I bought an X1900 Crossfire master card
to go with my X1900XTX and added another 2GB of RAM. So far all
these games except Doom 3 engine run nice at 2560x1600:
Doom 3 & expansion
Quake 4
Battlefield 2
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
Rob Burns Rally
HL2, HL2:LC, and CS: Source
The only disappointment is, for me, Doom 3 engine games have major
errors around any haze effects at 2560x1600. I run at 1920x1200
scaling up and it looks pretty impressive but not absolutely
crystalline the way native resolution does. If anyone out there is
using ATI hardware to run Doom3 engine games at 2560 free of crazy
glitches, please post here and let me know your main settings.
Anyhow, I upgraded from a 19" Viewsonic CRT to a 24" Dell
widescreen LCD last month. After a week using it I bit the bullet
and ordered this 30 inch bad boy. I am going to sit them all side by
each tomorrow and take a photo for posterity before sending the
24" back.
By the way, my panel is perfect with nice uniform brightness, sharp
colour and contrast, and not a single dead pixel. The finish also
looks very nice.
I have spent a lot of money. Fortunately this system is a business
expense, so I can afford to get the best. Plus, I use the computer
so much that it will pay itself off in productivity gains and also
in preserving my eyesight.
All in all this monitor is quite choice.
