HardOCP mentioned "Firing Squad has a fantastic interview with
Mark Rein of Epic" on its front page. Pretty rare that another
site, especially one that at some levels competes with Firing Squad,
say stuff like that!
Anyway, all the interviews were great to read to see the inside
views from the "other side" (the gamers being on one side,
the developers on the other).
ps. I find FS is getting even better in the last while!

"Unreal Tournament 2007 promises a return to the
"feel" of the original Unreal Tournament" if that is
true and the maps are good then epic should take over
the screens look good

windows already has different versions coming out and the blame goes
to intel, they make new chipsets for manufacturers

Yeah, Mark's end rant on PCs and how OEM are killing the market by
shipping Dual Core CPUs but crappy integrated graphics. He kind of
prounces on Intel, but this is not really Intel's issue. It is up to
OEMs to provide better graphics cards. But part of Mark's complaint
is a PC problem in general. Very few, percentage wise, of PCs are
intended to be gaming machines, and many "game" machines
spend much more time browsing, emailing, etc... than gaming. Part of
the problem is consumers are ignorant, the other issue is consumers
are fickle. My brother-in-law just built a new computer and bought a
crappy GPU. I told him the GPU was may more important for
performance than the CPU and RAM he bought, but his (bad) logic was
he only plays games ~20% of the time so he wanted more of the
"other" stuff to accelerate his other tasks. Like Word,
Outlook, and FF. :/ There is no reasoning with some people.
On the other hand Microsfot of all people may be making this change.
By making an intensive 3D mode in Windows and acknowledging gaming
is one of the top purposes of a PC we may see MS at some point
initiate a "Premium" standard that REQUIRES a certain
level GPU. Hopefully we see this sooner than later.

Great interview! Especially the thinking on intergrated graphics.
Is Intels integrated graphics cards going to even be strong enough
to run Windows Vista in full glory?
Its crazy how the newer vid cards for laptops are slightly slower
than past generation stuff. (ie x1400 and GeForce Go 7400 are
slower than say x700). My 2 cents

As usual, Epic is very forthcoming about what they are doing and
their opinions. I appreciate this interview a lot and I absolutely
agree with the @##!%!$! idea of sticking Integrated Graphics
solutions on dual core processors. Just because you have hardware
and you CAN do it that way does not mean you should. But I so want a
30 inch LCD and a quad sli setup from either dell or alienware!!
