| | (Post a comment) » PowerColor Radeon X1800 GTO ReviewWith its R520 graphics core and 256-bit memory interface, ATI's Radeon X1800 GTO is essentially a X1800 high-end graphics card in mainstream clothing. Up for review for today is PowerColor's expression of the X1800 GTO. We've gathered our usual round of benchmarks, including Far Cry and Oblivion HDR results, to see how the X1800 GTO compares to the GeForce 7600 GT, 7900 GT, Radeon X1800 XT 512MB, and X1600 XT. Even if you're not sure about the X1800 GTO, you won't want to miss our overclocking results with the card overclocked over 150MHz! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Lousy review, not done by the clean book. ATI fanboyism for shure.
Such a shame but then Firingsquad is the ghetto place.

Good review, but.. Honestly.. This intelliTXT stuff is starting to
become WAY obtrusive.. How about a "DONATE and make this
rubbish go away" option?

This card would be good at around $180 WITHOUT a mail in rebate. At
the prices this card is floating at, it doesn't make any sense.
Just save 50 extra and buy the vastly superior X1800 XT and if you
can save 20 after that, you can get the 512 MB version.
No contest.
The X1800 GTO at over $200 is a sad joke.

As the article states "The chip features all the enhancements
first found in ATI’s Radeon X1800 XT, so you’ve got full support for
3.0 pixel and vertex shaders, floating-point HDR lighting with AA,
...", it would have been interesting with some HDR+AA results
in Oblivion and other games that can take use of that (Far Cry
patched to 1.4?).
When trying to find a not too expensive card with decent performance
filling the gap until the launch of the coming DX 10-cards, for me
the HDR+AA thing is the main divider between this card and the
Geforce contenders, so if it's not able to deliver useful
framerates, I can diecard that particular feature argument, and only
consider price vs performance. But I want facts first... So, SM 3.0
HDR+ AA + X1800GTO = Y/N?

About time... ATI had huge gapping hole in their lineup between
X1600's and X1800XL for so long.
However, at Newegg, X1800GTO is $220, X1800XT 256MB is $280, and but
X1800XL is at lowest $310. Seems ATI forgot to drop prices on the
X1800XL... but ofcourse where to? Unless the GTO drops further,
there is not much room for the GTO, XL, and XT all within $200-$300
range.

For the price ($CDN) I've seen the x1800 GTO for $285...the 7900 GT
for $390 and the 7600 gtoc for $255..
Bang for the buck the x1800 GTO seems have a good ratio...Even
better if you can get 16 pipes.

a 7600gt is around the same speed as a x850xt
at stock the x1800gto is a bit faster than the 7600gt, so yes it
would be faster than the x850xt, especially if you unlock + OC it

i received my x1800gto today (HIS brand), and it unlocked to 16
pipes easily so i think it performs much better than the x850xt pe,
but yeah all cards may not be unlockable so its not a decisive win.
even then, an overclocked 12 pipes gto should smoke the x850, not
talking about sm3 and hdr+AA...

I wonder how this card compares to an older (x800 based) GTO2--the
one that unlocks to 16 pipes and overclocks to XT PE levels. Seeing
as this one is its apparent replacement, can this more advanced but
12 pipe card beat it? Or is this like when ATI tried to get people
to buy the "new + improved" 9600 pro that was totally
inferior to the 9500 pro?
