North Korea attacked South Korea>> 11:06 PM - Jacob Vandy VanDerWerf ( 10 comments ) After over 50 years of relative peace, North Korea fired multiple artillery shells at South Korea, killing two, wounding 18 others, and putting many more at risk when their homes and surrounding vegetation were set ablaze. South Korea responded with their own artillery and fighter jets in the exchange over the Yellow Sea that lasted about an hour.
South Korean president Lee Myung-bak considers this an invasion of his territory and has threatened "enormous retaliation," while President Obama has pledged to honor the long-standing alliance between our two countries.
After a careful and thorough analysis, we determined that the process announced today provides the optimal path for recapitalising our balance sheet and positioning Blockbuster for the future as we continue to transform our business model to meet the evolving preferences of our customer,” said Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes.
The recapitalised Blockbuster will move forward better able to leverage its strong strategic position, including a well-established brand name, an exceptional library of more than 125,000 titles, and our position as the only operator that provides access across multiple delivery channels – stores, kiosks, by-mail and digital.
I think people may have spoken about [the lack of Blu-ray support with the Xbox 360] originally, but that's long gone. I think people now recognise what a smart decision it was to keep the pricing low.
Actually Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format. People have moved through from DVDs to digital downloads and digital streaming, so we offer full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly, no download, no delay.
Relic lead designer dies heroically in car crash>> 11:55 AM - Jacob Vandy VanDerWerf ( 7 comments ) Brian Wood, one of the creators of the Company of Heroes series, died in an accident last Friday. In a successful effort to save his pregnant wife, he swerved his car at the last second so that he would take the brunt of the impact.
All the policeman say that if we had hit the car head-on all of us would be dead. At the very last second [Brian] braked really hard and turned right so that he would be put in the path of the SUV and not me and the baby, and that is the only thing that saved us both.
I am not going to waste the gift he gave us.
The driver of the SUV that crossed the center divide and hit them was trying to take her sweater off while the passenger took the wheel... Nobody in that vehicle was wearing a seat belt, they all had previous criminal records, and were also apparently on drugs at the time.
The Hidden Pattern of Video Game Scare Stories>> 03:11 PM - Jacob Vandy VanDerWerf ( 5 comments ) Apparently, the media favors two months of the year in terms of running sensationalist "violent games are bad" stories, April and November. The latter is the month that marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season, but what about the other one?
