Blizzard's expansion to WarCraft III is an truly astounding expansion, even though it was rushed.
The Frozen Throne is a difficult game to review. The product adds a lot to the WarCraft III experience especially with the new units and heros. The time spent in balancing is sure to boost the fun already experienced in on-line matches.
The single player campaigns, however, leave something to be desired.
Don't get me wrong, the single player campaigns are great. Special mention needs to go to the Undead campaign and the second half of the Blood Elf campaign for providing a great deal of enjoyment.
The Night Elf campaign also has its moments although it can be boring at times.
The real complaint I have about this game is, to me, it did not feel as though it was finished.
The game features only one movie style cinematic. The rest use the game engine. The final 'cinematic' at the end of the undead campaign is a joke. It feels like a rough outline for the creation of a cinematic.
This, topped off with an extremely annoying end to the RPGish Orc campaign (it doesn't end, the rest will be available for download later at blizzard.com) makes me wonder if the game was actually ready to come out the door.
Overall, when compared with all the other stuff out there, The Frozen Throne is a great game. It just doesn't quite live up to what I expect from Blizzard. Regardless, if you're a WarCraft III fan, you should go out and buy it today. |
