Yo Ho Ho and A Bottle Of Aviation Fuel

Rating:
80%

» Pros
Novel idea and interesting storyline
Some very nice touches here and there
Pitched at a level most gamers will feel comfortable with

» Cons
Graphics & sound are 'functional' but nothing to rave about
Probably not going to be for all tastes

» Review
Think Errol Flynn and Captain Blood and you've got the essence of this game....but then transport it into a world of the future where the stock market has crashed and pirates plunder the skies in huge Zeppelin warships!

Crimson Skies has an interesting concept and an interesting storyline and for the most part it works. Microsoft have crafted a game which is both interesting and entertaining and not too difficult so as not to lock out many gamers whilst at the same time providing a decent challenge for the rest of us.

You play Nathan Zachary, a kind of Robin Hood of the skies and have three game options to play. A multiplayer Capture The Flag style is perhaps the most fun if you've got the option to play multiplayer, whilst hte more impatient will enjoy being thrown straight into a battle scenario...and a fast death in my experience lol.

Alternatively, you can play the full game and attempt to complete the 20 missions given to you which may involve rescuing a damsel in distress from some rogue country or pirate group, or transporting something safely across the crimson skies. All three games are great fun and offer much to give a gamer full value for money.

One gripe about Crimson Skies is that it is looking a bit ragged in terms of graphics now and the sound was never really up to that much in the first place. oh sure, its servicable, we're not talking early 90's here, but you may be forgiven for expecting much more. Don't be expecting a Zeppelin simulator either, there are plenty of flight simulators elsewhere and neither should you expect Wing Commander combat...you ARE flying a zeppelin afterall and t handles like one! This game is more ioterested in the adventure and the battles and if you're interested in the same then you'll love this.
