Well, either I'm getting too old (not likely at 21) or WarCraft is getting damned tired and repetitive. I don't mean to say I didn't *enjoy* the experience, I just mean I knew what was going to happen...
All in all, the game really isn't bad - just dull and repetitive for those of us who invested countless hours in the past Warcraft incarnations. You have three races instead of 2 (and I'm sorry, the elves are absolutely awful), but more or less the same units with little improvement.
There is less emphasis on overall strategy and building a base and defending it, then capturing the enemies, and more on some sort of Diablo-esque hero-rampage through hordes of much weaker opponents.
The plot is pretty dull. I'm sorry, but BLizzard already used the good-hero turned by dark magic plot (Diablo I anyone?) and here it is AGAIN. I mean, if this doesn't point out the games lack of originality, I don't know what does.
Perhaps I prefer a simpler game - a *grunt* *grunt* *clang* *clang* strategic slaughter like Warcraft II, or StarCraft. This is after all just my opinion...
All I know is, when Warcraft II came out, I couldn't stay away. When this came out, I became so disgusted with the Elves while I was playing them, I deleted the game wholsale, and never looked back... |
