1. Excellent Audio
err... thats about it!

*Cant seem to rotate the camera
*Ground battles are a BIG let down Visually
*Space battles seem to be fought on a "pseudo" 3D Plane. (i absolutely loved Home World)
*Path finding in space battle is a load of cr*p. *Every thing seem to fly off on it's own, irrespective of where i want them
*Why cant i ask for resources from my home bases when rading a planet. Seems to me that i am limited to amount of re-enforcement orbiting the planet
*Whats up with base building. Why CANT I BUILD FREELY?!?

The entire concept is flawed. It isnt a RTS, more of a Strategy game with elements of RTS.
There is no way to build directly on the planet surface. You are presented with some "slots" in which to place buildings. And then u keep clicking unit icons to produce ur army. Pathetic. Call me a CnC junkie but thats the only way i fell comfy is if i can see soldiers coming out of training facilities, tank out of factories etc etc.
Ground Battles:
First off. What happened to the visuals?
Next up. When i'm off raiding planets i cant actually build anything on the surface until i capture build locations. This is so pathetic.
Realistically with sooo much technology on hand in the SW universe this is totally crappy. I should be able to build a base and then continue on from there
rather than relying on "pre-assembled" re-enforcements.
Next the unit balance. Nothing like it. imo the rebels have the crappiest units initially which makes life sooo frustating.
Space Battles:
First Off. Isnt Space supposed to be 3D? If so, why cant i send by ships in all 3 dimensions. Also there is no way to rotate the camera (which i could find) to get a since of depth if one exists.
Graphics are better than ground battles.
My gripes about space battles are similar. Cant concurrently produce fighters and send them in.
Game Play:
The entire SW atmosphere is there. Them music is top notch. Voice overs are great. As are sfx. You really feel a part of the SW Universe and u do feel the force.
Unfortunately that "force" leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.
The training mission introduces a very novel RTS design, which imo is partially Strategy with elements of RTS. The whole galaxy map deal falls in the former, which is done okay, but when it comes to dealing with the RTS bit, it's a let down
for the reason mentioned above: WHY CANT I BUILD BASES FREELY WHEN RAIDING/ CONCURRENTLY PRODUCE FIGHTERS DURING SPACE BATTLES.
AI is a mixed bag. On mission rebel 4 (if i remember correctly, where i have to steal a bunch of X-Wings, first two times around near the end of the mission where i have to destroy ground defences i got mauled by marauders, AT-STs. The third time (fresh reload) they just sat in on corner of the map the entire time.
MULTIPLAYER:
Seems to be a much better alternative, but then i already have a great SW MMO game.
BOTTOM LINE:
I'm a avid sw fan. Not a die hard sw fan boy. I liked X-wing, X-wing vs TIE fighter (really tough but truly enjoyable games). I also like the FPS based on SW saga. But imo all three attempts at SW RTS Suck big time. This time things looked promising, but are let down by really poor game
design. I imagined being able to build a base, take part in epic space battles (ala Home World), and be generally happy. Sadly That hasnt happened
VERDICT: REAL LET DOWN
Graphics 6/10
Audio 10/10
Animation 7/10
Coolness (playability) 3/10
Get relic, Blizzard or EA-LA make the next SW-RTS. |
