get to be a pirate!
Great visuals and audio - very immersive environment. the game looks fantastic at all times, it sucks you into the game and you never want to leave- at first
Lack of different pirate flags to use - alot of the flags on the themes packs are just cut outs from civilization III- now that is lazy.
The number of different ships and types of ships is the best part of the game, and you will notice that everything interacts with everythign else in the world, which is very well done.

The wierd bits of speech the carachters garble out - each sounding like they are at different stages of the same fit or stroke
the lack of variety - you can be a pirate, and only a pirate: it would have added so much depth to the game if you could have played as a naval captain, a smuggler, a privateer or even as a pirate hunter.
the ball-room dancing- gets boring and annoying very quickly: the annoying governors slappers are all so ugly in any case that you would rather dance on their grave than actually with them.
the sword fighting - probably the worst gaming experience known to man. It is hopeless
lack of lifespan - after youve found one treasure youve been there, done that
Lack of different pirate flags to use - alot of the flags on the themes packs are just cut outs from civilization III- now that is lazy.
Unrealistic battles - if you use a fast ship you can actually dodge cannon shot in flight
Firaxis whoring the sid meiers name around to sell any old game
the story line actually gets in the way of actually being a bloody pirate!

In the end, you will think this game should have been so much more... and you rarely if ever say that about a sid meier's game.
This game is very good for a few days, then the little things start to annoy you: the sword fighting is too overly used, and the lack of variation of the sword fighting and other scenarios, both visually and actually, will get tedious quite quickly.
The game is also quite buggy, in my own experience the most annoying thing is when your ship gets beached after the game restarts and will not free itself, causing you to have to restart the game.
The game does however give you alot of fun, if you can live with its simplistic nature and lack of depth. |
