Well, I didn't list all the pro's and con's. I just gave you the major ones.
I have been playing this game for a good month, so keep in mind im an experienced player now.
My first day I was a bit confused, but caught on quickly. I was loving the huge battles and the nice sites about the continents. There was not that much people yet and I was enjoying the small and large battles with my squad. When I first started playing, I used the infiltrator class. My job was to sneak behind enemy lines and hack the base. Or sneak behind the enemy lines and assassinate. I loved sneaking into an enemy base, stabbing two of them in the back with my knife, then successfully capturing the base.
Within my first week of the game. I quickly got tired of infiltrator(I will explain further into the review)and switched my character to a Reaver pilot. My job was to provide covering fire for friendlies, take out Advanced Mobile Stations, take out maxes, and kill any enemy in sight. It was fun but it got to be a pain, because either I sucked at flying Reavers or the enemy was good. But I realized how hard it is for a reaver not to be shot down in 5 seconds above a crowded enemy base.
Within my second week of playing. I switched my character to grunt based skills and abilities. My job was to invade bases, kill enemys, hack the bases, take towers, and much more. The life of a grunt in Planet-Side is a fast-paced, important roll within battles. I rely on the skill of the grunts beside me, and they rely on my skills. We stick with eachother.
Which brings me to the teamwork. There is more teamwork in Planet-Side then in any other game i've played in. This is probally because it is a Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter(MMOFPS). Back to the point. The teamwork in Planet-Side excels. Your squad is usually very dependent on the speed of the attacks. Which brings me to the vehicles.
Vehicles like the Galaxy and Sunderer. Provide great armor to the troops inside that are being transported. Galaxys are good for flying above an enemy base or tower, then hotdropping.
Through my month of playing, I did not realize until the end of the month. How SOE was beginning to rip us off. The first free month is not free at all. You pay $50 for the game+the free month. Then $13 a month. The first month is full of bugs, under-powered weapons, lag, and a few other cons.
The bugs in the game can become a pain in most situations. Its true, most of the bugs are solved within a few days. But each patch brings atleast 2 bugs for each 1 bug that is solved. While playing the game, you'll experience CTD (Crash to Desktop), lockup bug. Also the lag creates many bugs which I will discuss later in my review.
People complained about under-powered weapons. It took a month for SOE to fix this, people still complain too. Not much to say about that. The weapons were over-powered for the whole first month pretty much. They were fixed though.
The lag gets horrid. People are teleporting all over the place. The ghost bug kicks in, where characters and vehicles appear and reappear. You tend to run over a few teammates too.... When the server is in prime-time, your ping can get up to 200-400. Then about everyother day, there is tons of lag at one point. Your ping will shoot up to about 1000-5000. Then you will disconnect from the servers and be locked out of the world. This usually happens around nighttime.
Team-killing can get annoying, alot of the outfits are using the KOS/TK system now. Which meens if you TK one of them once. If any of them see you they will Kill-On-Sight. You can't really run. The world is pretty small and easy to find people.
The grief system is extremely annoying. I cannot stress this enough. If someone from your own empire rams you with a vehicle - you get grief. If someone from your own empire steps infront of you when your firing - you get grief. Sometimes when lag is bad. You'll get aton of grief points out of nowhere. And if you destroy an enemy vehicle. Be careful, if it explodes around your team you will get tons of grief points. I heard of a person getting 400 grief points.
Grief point system
Level 2 Grief - 500 grief points.
Level 3 Grief - 1000 grief points.
Level 4 Grief - 1500 grief points.
At level 2 grief you get a warning
At level 3 grief, you get a weapons lock and a vehicle lock, which meens you cannot fire your weapons and your vehicle will move incredibly slow. This has a timer, it lasts for anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.
At level 4 grief, you are banned from the game.
Also, the new vehicles are being added. While this is cool - SOE waited until the end of our free month to add them.
Also, the infiltrator class isn't too good now. Its usually easy to see infiltrators when cloaked from longer-ranges. I suggest waiting alittle bit for SOE to improve them.
Most of the bugs were not fixed until the end of the first month, the weapons were not fixed until the end of the first month, theres much more that wasn't improved until the end of our free first month. Be warned, if your planning on buying this game you must know it is buggy and incomplete. Im thinking it will be stable with all the new features by the end of July. That concludes my review. Later. |
