Civ style gaming. Don't ask me why, it's just good. (going to sleep at 4AM because you lost track of time means you got a good game)
- Starbases are a nice addition, and have a serious impact.
- AI is good, and fairly realistic.

there is one problem, you go to sleep at 4AM because you were victorious and that ENDS the game.
- It's pretty difficult, even on normal levels.
- Expansion on normal difficulties is already very hard.
- Combat is almost an aftertought.
- The END, why oh why did the game have to end.

It's a very nice civ style game. My first impression was a massive civ style ripoff in space, but 1) That's not such a bad thing 2) it has enough uniqueness to not be concidered as a total ripoff.
Comat is slow. Unless you have a HUGE amount of planets pushing warmachines, it's almost a waste of time. Because it takes so long to build a ship, let alone a fleet. It may be turn based. But pressing enter a thousand times before you have an attack fleet is just too much.
Higher difficulties are annoying: there is little room for expansion, the computer rushes to take all available spots. That combined with the slow combat means it's a dead end.
But like I said, the ULTIMATE breakdown is the ending. On my first and last (complete) try, I got a cultural victory (OK I admit, wussy difficulty) and the game ended. I got a small outro, some stats and that was it. Game over.
I mean, WTF... I had barely reseached half the tech tree, haven't been in combat once and I coudn't even take over a planet yet. The thing just ended.
Higher difficulties will no doubt extend the game, but still, I'd like to be able to clean up the map when I'm "done".
This brings it down from a good game, to a 2 step affair: Played it, dumped it. Just because there is nothing more to do.
I'll definitly let you know how it proceeds at higher difficulties, just to see if it improves. |

"The AI isn't all that" by: bob_d Galactic Civilization is an OK game, and those who like the genre will enjoy playing it, for a while.
I found the game to be very much like Civ3, ...more
